I don't know why so called educated people can't understand in their infinite wisdom (yeah right), why guns and alcohol don't mix. We have too many shootings here in Arizona as it is, without adding more reasons to have more shootings. Anyone with a half a brain can understand that alcohol effects a person's thinking. Mix the loss of clear thinking, with a volatile situation, and you have a disaster waiting to happen, as well as a possible death.
Anyone who has been to a bar has at some time or another seen situations that get really rowdy. Whether it be over some jealous boyfriend punching out a guy who was flirting with his girlfriend, or a belligerent drunk that can't take no for an answer form the bartender when he says he's cut off from ordering any further drinks. It's a disaster waiting to happen. Somewhere along the way we've got on this band wagon that because the constitution allows us the right to bare arms, that all common sense should go out the window. Whether we agree or not, there are some places guns should not be taken.
I know then you have the people squealing that the bad guy wouldn't stop form taking a gun anywhere, and we need to protect ourselves form him and his gun. That may be true, but when does it all stop. Should we allow a daycare worker of children to bring her gun to work? You know, just in case some nut case comes a calling. There will always be bad guys, but it's up to the good guys to have a little common sense and make decisions that benefit the safety of all, and not base our decisions on a rare or isolated incident that may or may not happen.
Now, there is one thing these bar owners are allowed to do, thankfully. If they put up a sign saying no concealed weapons, then the patron must abide by it. Here's hoping there's some intelligent bar owners out there. I have a strong feeling though that some of the owners will feel like they are chasing a way some patrons if they do put up this sign. However, if they are chased away perhaps their not the kind of patrons one would want in their bar anyway.
This is going to be all fresh and new come Wednesday, and the weekend will soon be coming. it will be interesting to see now and in the future just how stupid this law is. I know for me, unless an establishment does have that sign up forbidding concealed weapons in their establishment, I'm not going in. I have seen too many alcoholics and drunks, as well as just moderate drinkers get out of hand and get violent, to ever want to be around one that's toting a gun.
FYI: Alcohol and guns do not mix. For the safety of everyone, never have a gun on you, or within reach when drinking, it can be a deadly combination! If you plan to travel to the state of Arizona, be aware that if you go to a restaraunt while visiting, someone in there may be carrying a gun!

Post a CommentKnow Better: Well you may know the law, but obviously not the point of my article. It has nothing to do with whether the person who's carrying a gun is drinking or not, and you can never be assured they were not drinking at an earlier place, but with the fact of anyone who might be drinking. A bar is a volatile place regardless. That's probably why they don't offer drinks to soldiers before combat, as they may end up shooting their own men! Get real, and have some intelligence, if Drinking & Driving don't mix, what makes you think drinking & guns mix!
read the law before you comment. You are only allowed to carry if you are not drinking.
P.S. This ws originally supposed to be establishments with kitchens, than was expanded to establishments with alcohol, such as nightclubs, and bars.
David: This was a Bill that was presented an voted on in session, not directly voted on by the people. I do not for a minute beleive this is the will of the people considering how many elderly we have here. And as we all know they vote more tham anyone else. Unfortuntely a lot of things are passed because of what goes on in politics that has nothing to do with the people.
The laws always reflect the will of the elected people who the people elect.... everywhere. If they fail; in this, they get voted out. Representative democracy - for better and/or for worse.
