State Parks Versus Theme Parks

You have waited for what seems like forever when the day finally comes to take that long awaited vacation. You have spent your free time during the past weeks buying toiletries, sunscreen, shoes and clothing getting everything ready to pack for the upcoming event. A day or two before you leave you make sure your vehicle is ready for the challenge of a road trip. Now comes the time to make that last decision, will you stay closer to home or will you travel further away?

State Park

When packing for a camping trip be sure to bring at least two ice chests, one filled with ice and drinks, the other with gel packs and food items. Even more importantly, don't forget the sunscreen and marshmallows. Whether camping in a cabin, recreational vehicle or tent, once you arrive at your destination you will need to unpack and set up. A simple meal of sandwiches and chips are best for the first night, remember, you are on vacation to relax and have fun, there will be plenty of time later in the week for grilling hot dogs, hamburgers and steaks. Evenings during vacation can be enjoyed by either roasting marshmallows and telling stories by the fire or just relaxing and listening to the sounds of the wildlife.

For the duration of your vacation, you want to be sure to take advantage of all the activities that the park provides. Nature trails offer exercise combined with a learning experience for adults and children alike. You will have the enjoyment of seeing animals and plants you may not see on a daily basis in an environment that will intrigue your senses. Swimming, splashing in the water or playing in the sand offer relaxing exercise and enjoyment for adults and children. Be sure to explore the beach, there are many inhabitants and beautiful shells or rocks that may be overlooked, otherwise. Fishing, usually enjoyed by males, can be just as fun for women and children. The sense of accomplishment and joy on a child's face when he or she catches the "big one" will make any mother beam with pride.

Be sure to check if the park being visited allows boating, if so, they may offer boat rentals for those who have not brought their own. Paddle boats offer a family the chance to work together and enjoy each others company while exercising and exploring the lake. Motor boats allow a family to enjoy a different array of water sports from skiing to tubing or just fishing on the lake instead of on a pier.

Theme Park

Since theme parks can be further away from home than state parks, be sure to know some road trip games to keep children entertained during the trip, also, an ice chest full of drinks and snacks can help by keeping active mouths busy. Don't forget pillows and light blankets, some children sleep while traveling, giving parents a welcome reprieve.

After checking in at the hotel and getting a bite to eat, a dip in the pool can help everyone to relax. Getting plenty of rest for the days ahead is essential in having a great time.

For the duration of the trip, arriving at the theme park early will help in avoiding long lines at the entrance and allow for a few rides to be ridden before those lines get long, making the vacation more enjoyable. No one wants to come home saying they only had the chance to ride three or four rides a day. Try not to rush through the park, especially if you will be visiting for more than one day, enjoy what you can in the time that you have. If it is not possible to visit all of the rides or attractions, don't fret, when you look back on the experience, you will remember what was done, not what you missed.

Remember, you are on vacation and it is up to you and your family to make the most of it.
