State of the Union Predictions: What Will Bush Discuss in His Last State of the Union?

Ainsley Patterson
President George W. Bush is scheduled to give his last State of the Union at 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 28. Many are already trying to predict what he will discuss in this speech, and what he will have to say about the topics that he brings up. Here are my predictions for his last State of the Union.

With recent talks about the big R-word, I think that many Americans are waiting to hear what President Bush has to say about the state of our nation's economy.
There have been serious talks about economic stimulus packages and rebate checks for those who make around $100,000 a year or less. With the recent activity of the stock market and the state of the nation's middle class, I am sure that President Bush, in his State of the Union, will at least touch on what he believes needs to be done about our currently fragile economy, and how he plans to work with Congress to get said things done.

Surely, if President Bush does address the current state of our nation's economy in his State of the Union, he will make some mention of keeping America at the top of the global economy, it's just his style, "America Rocks!".

Iraq, Iraq, Iraq. It is hard to imagine President Bush making any public speech, especially a State of the Union, without at least a quick mention of Iraq and the war on terror. Maybe he will even mention what color threat level we are currently at and what that means for our nation. If anyone can keep track of what in the heck the colors mean, please drop me an e-mail when you are done reading this article.

I am sure that any message that he delivers about Iraq will follow closely along the lines of "patience is key". President Bush will probably make some mention of how our recent surge in troops is working for us, and how we need to keep with the plan. If any mention of withdrawal is made, it will probably be along the lines of needing to wait to withdraw until we have achieved more government and social stability for the Iraqi people. Although, perhaps he will decide that we can't leave until we have pulled Bin Laden out of the mountain in the middle of nowhere that he seems to be living in. Or maybe, just maybe, he will announce that we have FINALLY found a large stockpile of weapons of mass destruction on Iraqi soil. But I'm not holding my breath.

I don't expect President Bush to spend much time, if any, on the current presidential campaign. If he does make any mention of the current presidential campaign in his last State of the Union, it will probably be a quick "Good luck!" to the candidates.

So, overall, I expect President Bush to spend the majority of his last State of the Union hitting on two major topics, our nation's economy, and the current activity in Iraq. What I am really excited to see is if there will be enough "Bushisms" committed to add another book to the series.

Who knows? Perhaps President Bush with touch on national heath care in his State of the Union.

Love it or hate it, this is what I have to say about the last State of the Union of President Bush.

This was an insightful article. He did talk about the war. I hate to say that I was so tired, I kept dosing off during the address.
