The two components of HDL and LDL are the ones that need to be monitored. The HDL cholesterol needs to be high and the LDL cholesterol should be low. This is only because if the LDL level increases it starts building walls or blockages restricting the blood circulation. So, it is very important to keep the LDL level low.
Now, there are few drugs which regulate these levels in the blood. One of the classes of these drugs which is very commonly prescribes is the Statins. Statins are known for the effective control of the high cholesterol levels.
There are mainly two ways that cholesterol reaches human blood. One is through the food intake and the other is through the production in liver. A person who sticks to diet can definitely take care of the cholesterol level increasing because of the food intake. But, a human has no control over the activity of his internal organs. This is why drugs like statins have come to existence.
This drug is in use for almost four decades now and has been successfully lowering the high cholesterol levels in human blood. Statins play a vital role in the prevention of atherosclerosis. It basically reduces the amounts of cholesterol produced in the liver. By restricting the amount of cholesterol produced it helps regulating its levels in blood.
Broadly, statins can be classified in to two types on the basis of its origin one is synthetically produced and the other is derived by fermentation. There are many different types of actual medicines available under the statins category. These medicines though majorly do the task of reducing cholesterol levels and are there common task but individually these have slight differences in the functionalities. There are many different brands which promote these medicines and are known for their own uses. After looking at the conditions of the patients the doctors prescribe the best suit.
It is also true that the way statins is a useful drug, it also has certain adverse or side effects like headache, muscle pain, diarrhea, and in few rare cases harmful effects like muscle failure.
Well, though it is true that statins help in regulating cholesterol levels but it performs this task by restricting its production in liver, so, it is really very important for a person to take care of his diet in order to ensure that the cholesterol level does not increase due to bad eating habits. Of course, the other important way to reduce your cholesterol levels is through regular exercising. Simply by walking everyday consistently can help you to keep a control over your cholesterol levels. But, when these levels are high it is always advisable to switch over to the medication as prescribed by the physicians to avoid any critical situation.
