Stay Away from Credit Card Entrapments

Charlotte Raynor
Every day, if you are like the majority of Americans, receive tons of credit card offers in your mailbox. Why are all these credit card companies so keen about getting us to apply for their credit card? There are numerous explanations.

One thing is, believe it or not, credit cards are not free cash. Loads of people believe they are free cash and that is how credit card companies formulate the way they make their money.

As you read over the fine print on the offer about the credit card, and I hope you do read it before you apply for it, there are contrasting APRs, or annual percentage rates. If you are not able to pay your monthly account balance in full, these rates are the amount of interest you will pay on charges for the credit card.

Reflect back on the last time you went on a shopping spree. Did you total up all your purchases and figure out if you could pay for everything with your weekly paycheck? If you did not, you are just the type of customer the credit card company is looking for. These companies are betting on the fact that the consumer will use their credit cards to purchase more than they really have the money to pay for at that time at the shopping mall. It is so much easier to just pull out the credit card to pay for the goods and worry about paying for it later. Then, when the invoice comes in the mail and the customer cannot pay the bill in full, the customer pays just the minimum payment which includes the interest charges, which increases every day. This cash goes straight to the credit card company's bankroll. You can understand how these companies get rich so quick with millions of consumers doing this every month.

So how can you steer clear from getting into the credit card entrapment? A small amount

of financial preparation and caution can assist you in avoiding paying interest charges and permit you to profit from a credit card's fringe benefits.

Let's look at mileage credit cards. There are a number of airlines that provide credit cards that you are able to gain frequent flier miles considering how much money you spend. Tempting, right? It sure sounds like it. You just need to be watchful of how much money you are really able to spend each month and do not go over that limit. These days, it is very simple to verify your credit card balance either by phone or online. Make certain that you know when the closing day of your monthly credit card statement is and make it a point to stay below your credit limit. This way you can benefit from the incentive but not put yourself in a predicament.

You can stay away from credit card entrapments if you purchase items conscientiously and stay informed of the amount you purchase. Credit cards can be put to work in your favor and that way you will be a wise buyer.

TRUE! They aren't free cash. That was very well put. And these cards can get you in A LOT of trouble financially. Take it from someone who's been there. TERRIFIC ARTICLE. 5 stars!
