Stay Comfortable on a Long Road Trip

Robin Neorr
Going on a roadtrip should be an adventure you will never forget. In order to make the trip on that flies by instead of drags on you need to prepare for your roadtrip with these simple tips:

1. Pee - Everyone going on the trip has to pee before entering the car. It's a rule, do not break it or you will have the incredible urge to go to the bathroom the second you get on the highway.

2. Layered clothing - the day starts out cold and then gets warmer as your journey progresses and you had the forethought to wear layers, just peel them off and regulate your temperature. Now that is planning.

3. Comfy shoes - Seriously don't even bother to wear those high heels out the door and into the car. You need car shoes or even flip flops, heck if it is a really long road trip you can wear your slippers. Your feet need to take a vacation, and the more they can breathe the better.

4. Neck support - There is no shame in rockin a buckwheat neck pillow. You need the support for your neck to survive the long journey. A kinked neck is no fun on a long drive.

5. Snack time - You need to pack a cooler filled with snacks. Make sure to stay clear of sugar snacks. The spike in your blood sugar is not something you want to experience while sitting in a car. Ideas for healthy snacks include cut up carrots, apples, pears, celery sticks, and peanut butter for dipping.

6. Stay hydrated - Whether you are running an air conditioner in your car or driving with the windows down you want to stay hydrated. Get eco-friendly with a reusable water battle filled with filtered water from your home.

7. Blankets - Great for napping, or covering your head if everyone else in the car is driving you crazy.

8. Books on Tape - It never hurts to listen to "On The Road" or any other classic book while driving. It makes the time fly by.

9. Mixed Tapes - Okay so it will be a mixed CD or an ipod, but the concept is the same. Make sure to bring you favorite songs along for the ride.

10. Break time - Take regular breaks so you can get out of the car and stretch your legs. You can pull over at a rest stop or at a park and take a quick walk around the block to reinvigorate yourself.Good luck and enjoy your trip

When my kids were younger, it never failed that when we left the house they needed to go - even when told to go ahead of time. LOL! Excellent tips!
