Stay Cool This Summer with Low/No Carb Drinks

David Christopher
If you are looking to stay refreshed this summer and keep your trim figure - or at least not pack on any additional pounds, there are a number of tasty low carb and no carb drinks for you to choose from.

Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Diet Snapple Iced Tea is delicious; although it can take a little getting used to if you are used to drinking regular Snapple Iced Tea. I started drinking the diet version before the natural version, so I have never really noticed, but friends of mine have a hard time getting used to drinking the diet version. I also enjoy Snapple Peach Iced Tea, but the Diet version definitely leaves something to be desired...taste. It is exceedingly bland. But both drinks have 0 carbs.

I really like Sierra Mist, so Sierra Mist Free is a good alternative. I prefer it to Sprite. It is lighter and crisper and the lemon flavor is sharper than Sprite. Of all the sodas on the market, I think there is the least difference in taste between Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper. I prefer non-cola sodas, but taste-wise Diet Dr. Pepper is the cola I would drink if I had to choose. It, like Sierra Mist Free, is also a 0 carb drink.

I like flavored club soda-Schweppes Black Cherry is the best. Club soda is not for everyone; many do not like the taste, finding it too dry; I find the Schweppes line of seltzers a bit dryer than others, something I personally prefer. Nevertheless, club soda is a good choice for those looking for low or no carb drinks. My all time favorite is good old Poland Spring though. I usually either buy or fill up a one and a half liter bottle every morning and down it before work. You simply cannot go wrong with an ice-cold glass or bottle of water.

Alcoholic Drinks

If you are looking for low or no carb alcoholic drinks, consider vodka and orange juice. Actually, vodka goes well with many fruit juices...just make sure you are mixing the alcohol with diet juices, like Diet Cranberry juice. One of my favorites is a rum and coke, but colas are filled with carbs. Try rum and diet coke. It tastes a bit different but it is nearly as good.

Scotch and soda is another low or no carb drink but it is an acquired taste, one I do not relish. It depends on the quality of the scotch and your affinity for the taste of scotch.

Hard liquor usually has 0 carbs...just make sure to add a low carb mixer.
