Stay at Home Moms

It seems that 10-15 years ago women were demanding their right to work and have a career as well as a family. However, in recent times there seems to be an increase in women putting family before career and staying at home.

If you have children or are planning on having children, then the idea of staying at home has occurred to you. For most women who do decide to stay at home, one of the deciding factors is daycare. It is really expensive. The idea of a daycare raising their child doesn't sit well with them. They don't want to be at work when their son crawls for the first time or says his first word.

Another reason may be the desire to home school your children. Public schools can be great learning institutions. However, there are the bad apples and if you live in a school district with a history of violence then alternative education may be necessary. Private schools can be prohibitively expensive. Sometimes home schooling is the only option.

The decision to stay at home can be a difficult one. If you are a two income family, it can be quite a shock going down to one income. For some people, this very reason makes being a stay at home mom impossible. When deciding the money factor regarding staying at home, you should take into consideration daycare expenses, work expenses, clothing, and gas.

Some money savy mothers have decided to work from home. Whether it be blogging, creating eBay stores, Etsy stores, direct sales, starting their own daycare or even writing for Associated Content. These are a few ways to bring income into a house that is trying to survive on one income alone. Other ideas would be to recycle cans and use coupons as much as possible.

Stay-at-Home Moms don't get their just due. Hollywood has forever imprinted the misconception that they just sit around the house all day watching television. They are just lazy and don't want to work. This just isn't true. In fact, they are busy cleaning, cooking, chauffeuring, doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, and taking care of the children at the same time. They don't get to call in sick. They don't get snow days. It can be lonely, hard work.

The decision to stay at home is not usually one that is taken lightly and can impact your family's financial and emotional future.
