Delta Downs Hotel and Casino in Vinton, Louisiana is more than a gambling establishment. The hotel is a great place to stay for families, couples, and singles alike. Having had NO luck at gambling at anytime in my life I steer away from the whole mess including all the "freebies" offered when you sign up for those slot machine cards that give the 'big guys' a way to track your spending. However, at Delta Downs I find during my trips south that the hotel is an economical, comfortable place to stay with clean, generous sized rooms and good food at good prices. Of course if you do choose to gamble there is a large casino, as well as a race track offering all kinds of entertainment to all kinds of folks.

On the average with the B-Connected Slot Card a room rate starts at 56.00 per night. That price will get you a king sized room and bed that makes you not want to leave the room to go gambling! The rates vary during the week and weekend, but with the card you also can end up with free rooms or suites. Ok. Not free. You have to gamble and run quite a bit of money through those slots to get the benefit of a room, but you will also end up with 'comp' prices and discounts on food,--what more could you want?? Well, really free would be good, but if you are going to gamble/donate anyway, why not get some things in return, right?

So, not being a gambler I ended up 'donating' some cash to the one-armed-bandits a few months ago setting myself up to receive a free king-sized, non-smoking room and a $20.00 meal comp ticket. Off to Vinton, Louisiana I go - ready to spend the night, check out the spa facilities, outdoor pool and eateries. My first stop after check-in was to the room, where I just had to stretch out on the bed for a minute. The second stop was the buffet. Yummers, it is so good! Lots of Louisiana cooking, fried and blackened fish, shrimp, Cajun rice dishes, fresh vegetables prepared with southern spices, sweet potato casserole, okra and tomatoes, and let's not forget the corn bread. Fresh brewed tea. Oh my - next stop is the dessert table! Chocolate pie, chess pie, brownies, cookies, ice cream served fresh dipped, and a cup of hot coffee round out my meal, as well as my waist. What a life. :)

Back to the room by way of the spa which is on the "LL" or lower level. Nice place. Then, I swing by the pool area, and back to stretch out on the bed. The rooms are really nice, spacious, up to date, clean and fresh. Each bathroom has a walk in shower and large vanity with enough room to spread out your toothbrush and paste. Maybe I'll take a little nap before carrying my allotted amount of cash to the casino in the attempt to receive another "comp" room. I will also spend a little time in the eatery area. Not for food mind you as I am stuffed from the buffet. There is a pretty good Cajun band playing live in the evenings and it is fun to sit and watch the folks dance! Although not a drinker, my glass of wine and I will tap toes to the Zydeco beat and listen to the background sounds of slot machines paying off, while I keep my cash tucked away in my pocket for a few more minutes.

Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana is a great place to stop over and visit for an hour, for a day, for a weekend. The hotel is just small enough to remain personal and friendly, and the casino is generous in the "comps" one receives for gambling. Whether or not you are a gambler, or perhaps a race-track follower, or even just wanting somewhere else to stay for a get-away with good food, Delta Downs can fill the bill. Plan a trip just over the Texas line off of Interstate 10 and see what the welcoming folks of Louisiana have offered up for entertainment, you won't be disappointed!
