Stay Warm Without Spending Much Money

We all know that the winter season can be very brutal not only in terms of the weather and the temperature, but it can also have a major impact on your wallet. When it's freezing outside, everyone wants to be inside where it's toasty and warm, but the warmth is usually associated with a high cost. Gas and Electricity can be quite expensive, especially during the rough times that we are currently going through in our country. But, there is some hope for those of us who want to keep warm, but do not have the extra money to buy it. So, I have compiled a list of inexpensive, yet smart ways to stay warm during these cold times.

One of the most affordable and easiest ways to keep warm is to layer, in terms of clothing. Use what you already have in your home; this means where two sweatshirts, sweatshirt plus jacket, etc. There is no right way of doing this, but the key here is to where enough articles of clothing to hold in your body heat and stay warm. This is a very practical and cheap way of keeping warm not only in your own home, but when you have to go outdoors.

Another economical way to stay warm during the coldest days of the year is to cover your doors, windows, and/or any other opening your home may have leading to the outdoors. This is important because the cold air can easily seep through any crack or crevice making your home even colder, and this also means that the heat from your home can leak through those same cracks flowing to the outside. The opening can easily be covered for very little money, if any. Some items that can be use are blankets, sheets, and trash bags, plastic, among many other items. Basically, for the windows you can staple, tape, or nail any of the coverings mentioned so that it covers the entire window. This will stop any cold air from flowing into your home, and it will stop any heat from escaping. The same can be done for your doors. One very important thing to keep in mind is that a lot of air flows under the door, so it is important to at least cover that area with a blanket and/or a towel.

The next helpful suggestion is to get that fireplace, if you have one, up and running. Not everyone has a fireplace in his or her home, but if you do you should be using it. Now this is not free, especially if it is a gas fireplace, because you will have to pay for the gas required to get it up and running. The other option is if you have a wood-burning fireplace you should be using it. The fireplace can be a very great source for heat. You can go out into your yard and gather some wood, or buy it from a local market or dealer and if bought from the right place it is usually very low-priced. It is important to always keep an eye on your fireplace, because fireplaces can be very dangerous if not handled seriously. Not only does the fireplace provide heat, but it is also a great source for light. So, not only will you be saving money on heat, but you will also be saving money on electricity, and we all know how important it is to save as much money as we can during these hard times.

These hints and suggestions if done correctly will help save money during the cold times of the year. If you follow these suggestions, especially if more than one is used you will definitely be warm this winter, and you will have a little more insulation in your pockets, in terms of extra money that you will save by not paying for high heating bills.
