Are you ready to feel younger and more vibrant? Who isn't! One of the secrets to feeling great at any age is yoga. It has multiple health benefits which yoga instructor Irma Deniz has adapted for seniors. According to Irma, yoga is for all ages and abilities. Working with physical therapists, she has personally designed classes that can be enjoyed by seniors and those with challenges.

Irma adapts each class to her student's level and ability. Her gentle technique surprises many. They find they can do more than they ever thought and feel terrific afterwards!

One adaptation Irma uses is chair yoga By utilizing a chair many seniors have discovered that they can still receive the health benefits of your with out discomfort. Irma calls this "yoga lite". She originated the program while working with Special Needs Adults and has discovered that it works equally well with seniors.

Irma's students often laugh and joke about yoga for wrinkles. In some of her classes Irma incorporates facial exercises. Working the facial muscles and energies can add elasticity. Irma teaches at the Stream Wood Park District classes designed just for seniors. Her original class has grown to five classes in order to meet the demand. Irma also provides group sessions at select retirement/assisted living homes.

Fitness guru and legend Jack LaLanne, now 93, continues to do yoga regularly. You can't beat how great it makes you feel. According to a 2005 interview he was still doing yoga every other day for the assist it gives to circulation, joints and blood pressure.

Yoga has many health benefits it helps those with arthritis achieve greater flexibility. Yoga strengthens joints, it is especially good for knee and hip problems. Yoga has been found to relieve the symptoms of carpal tunnel and Fibromyalgia (FM) and many other ailments. Every session of Irma's classes ends with at least five minutes of restorative yoga. Restorative adds an extra level of relaxation. According to Irma it reduces stress and feels great! She says she is particularly surprised at the changes in the disabled adults "They look so relaxed and happy afterwards!"

Irma became a certified yoga instructor through the Himalayan Yoga and Mediation Center. She has multiple certifications in Energy Work and Healing. Irma has been sharing her gift throughout out the North-western suburbs.
