Staybridge Suites in San Bruno - Hotel Review

Great for San Francisco Visitors

Paul Bright
Visiting San Francisco could require an overnight hotel stay. Yet visiting San Francisco doesn't mean you have to stay in the city. Consider the Staybridge Suites in San Bruno instead.

Staybridge Suites, located on 1350 Huntington Avenue in San Bruno, is only a short 10-minute drive from the heart of San Francisco. Prices are relatively cheaper and you don't have the hassle of paying parking at your own hotel, or constant street noise from a city that's never without excitement.

We made our reservations a month ahead and had no problems checking in. The staff was very courteous and we were immediately impressed by the lobby size. It turns out that the Staybridge not only offers breakfast, they give you an actual place to eat it besides your room.

Upon room entry we were also impressed with the room sizes and layout. There was a main hangout area with a fold-out couch and good-sized kitchen, while the two rooms were on opposite sides. This is perfect for people with kids that don't mind sharing a bed. The parents can have a little breathing space on vacation!

Beds were comfortable. Nothing to rave about, but they offered a good, soft sleep. Rooms come with nice clock radios with very effective alarms.

As for amenities...well, this is where Staybridge has some interesting highs and lows. Staybridge offers breakfast every morning. On Friday morning we had nice, cook-your-own waffles with corned beef and eggs for the sides, as well as a fruit bar and juice bar. Not bad! But on the weekends, the food was considerably worse, with barely heated ham slices and no waffles.

There's also a pool and a basketball goal in the middle of the courtyard. Yes, a basketball goal. Great for those who like an alternative workout, but bad for those who want a good night's sleep and finds that others think that 3-on-3 should happen at 3am.

The location is also a double-edged sword. If you plan to stay a few days, Staybridge is awesomely placed within walking distance of a mall, grocery store and plenty of local restaurants. But you are also just outside of the San Francisco airport, so you can expect to hear a random plane fly overhead at odd hours. No problem for my family, who has lived on or near an Air Force installation for the last 10 years. But it might be bad for that light sleeper.

Another benefit of Staybridge is that you're actually close to the beach as well. Another 10 minute ride towards the west leads you to Pacifica, a quiet beach town with a great Taco Bell right on the shore!

We'd select the Staybridge Suites again. If you're going on a long business trip and want to feel a little more at home, Staybridge might be the choice for you. Plenty of leg room and plenty to do without the hassle of San Francisco downtown travel.
