January has come and gone. With its passing, many people across the country have forgotten about their goals for new year. It seems people lose their motivation quickly. While maintaining your focus on a goal throughout the entire year is not easy, there are things you can do to stay on track and accomplish your goals in the new year. Here are some things you should consider when trying to stay on track to make your goals come to pass in the new year.

Re-evaluate your goals. From time to time it is important to step back and re-evaluate what you are trying to accomplish. Begin by deciding exactly what your goal is. Often people are working toward a goal but have not been specific as to what they want to accomplish. You may say, "I want to get in shape," or I want to be better off financially." You must ask yourself, 'What exactly does that mean." Make sure you have defined your goals very specifically. Furthermore you need to determine if your goal are realistic and if you've given yourself enough time to accomplish them. Expecting to lose 40 or 50 pounds in a month is clearly unrealistic. Trying to lose 50 pounds in a year, thats attainable. Make sure to be realistic and share your goals with others to make sure you are on track.

Planning is also very important when trying to achieve your goals. You can have all the determination in the world but without a plan your goal is ultimately doomed to fail. You need to decide what steps you are going to take to accomplish your goal. Write them down! Review them often. You may need to change your plan if you realize part of it is not working. This is especially the case when trying to achieve weight loss goals. What works for you in the first few weeks, may not continue to work in later weeks. It is also a good idea to set dates for when you plan to accomplish certain things. This gives you some accountability instead of postponing things or excusing your behavior.

You probably can remember when you were young getting a reward from a teacher. Maybe you were demonstrating great behavior, or maybe you did a great job on an assignment. Your teacher noticed your success, and even though it may have been a small thing, the behavior was rewarded. Adults need the same kind of encouragement. You need some "that a boys" to keep you going and make you feel good. When you reach certain points moving toward your goal, give yourself a reward. Make it something that is appropriate for what you are doing, and remember not to over do it! Rewards are a great way to keep you on track to accomplish your goal.

Finally, you need to remind yourself why you want to accomplish your goal. Periodically take time out to think about why you set your goal in the first place. We usually have good reasons for setting goals. Are you trying to lose weight so that you will have more time and energy for family and friends. Are you working on your finances so that you can better provide for your family. Whatever your situation is, go back and think about why you are doing what your are doing.

Goals are not always easy to accomplish. The above mentioned tips should help you in your attempt to accomplish your goals in the new year. Just remember, anything worth wanting, is worth working for!
