My name is Kevin Fulton, and I am currently working on two major projects. It is my hope and prayer to remain focused on how much personal work it took to start both projects. I am grateful for the opportunities given to me in the year 2007. After experiencing life's difficulties in my personal life, I nearly lost the will to live prior to 2007. I would like to use this time to briefly share my story.
I am a 47years old African-American male who grow up through a dysfunctional family system, having turned to the streets at the age of 13. Over the years, I experienced everything the streets have to offer, "The Loss Of Valuable Time And Life." Although I am alive, I look at the loss of life as being the life I could have had, had I made different choices at the age of 13. As a direct result of those choices I made I have experienced the kind of life that produced family problems, school problems, job problems, living problems, medical and mental health behavioral problems, which created crime and punishment problems. After all those problems and issues it seems I would have experienced enough to be motivated to change. There were moments in which I had such motivation, then I would lose the motivational interest towards change and return to all I knew: the streets. My last experience in the streets had a different twist. I had gotten clean and learned the value of work in a way I had never known. I worked my way through a job training program and was given an opportunity to work as a federal contract employee at a VA Medical Center. This was the best experience of my life. Within two years I was promoted to supervisor of 2nd and 3rd shift. I went from being a co-dependant son of my fathers care to my own man. At 43 years old I had gotten myself in the position to live the life I always wanted through hard work. Something happened, though: I forgot to stay focused on the pain of my life.
Please follow this story as it leads up to why I wrote Poetography: Hear Me Though. "Staying Focused (Pt. II)" will be soon follow.
