'Steel Magnolias' is the Ultimate Movie for This Fan

"Steel Magnolias" is my favorite movie of all time. In fact, I would choose to watch "Steel Magnolias" over any other movie if given the option. I have always loved Sally Field and Julia Roberts, so it only stands to reason that I would love the movie "Steel Magnolias". I had never heard of Olympia Dukakis and Dolly Parton was okay. I didn't like Shirley Maclaine at all before I saw this movie. Daryl Hannah was relatively new to the movie scene at the time so I hadn't really seen her in anything before "Steel Magnolias". It was anyone's guess whether I would like it or not because of my mixed feelings about the cast. I watched it the first time and was hooked for life.

I have watched "Steel Magnolias" well over a hundred times since it was first released in 1989. My family thinks that I am the ultimate "Steel Magnolias" fan for that reason and because I recommend it to everyone I talk to. I have begun to follow the lives of the actresses that played in this amazing movie about southern women and their strength of character and will. I have, in fact, become a fan of all the actresses in this movie because the performances were outstanding on all counts. This was an amazing cast who pulled off one of the best movies of all times.

I own both the video tape and the DVD of "Steel Magnolias". I have thought about giving away the VHS tape since I have the DVD now, as I have done with other movies. I just can't seem to bring myself to do so though. I think it might be a fear of something happening to the DVD and not having the movie in my home. I can't have that happen since I watch this movie every chance I get. I got my daughter hooked on it as well and she can't get enough of it.

This movie never seems to get old to me. No matter how often I watch it, I find a different emotion surfacing because of this film. I, personally, think that everyone should watch this movie. I don't know how you could go through life without having seen it at least once. I am not even sure how you could watch it and not become a fan. Sally Field gives a brilliant performance during the graveyard scene as does Julia Roberts when she explains to her mother that she wants to have a baby of her own. "Steel Magnolias" is a huge influence on my life. It made me believe in true friendship and taught me a couple of life lessons along the way. I don't think my life would be the same today had I not attached myself to the movie and to the characters in it. I have watched the movie so many times that I can repeat it word for word now. Since I have passed it on to my daughter, I can only hope that she continues the pattern so that I am not the only ultimate fan of "Steel Magnolias" in the family.
