Stem Cell Research Increasing

What is all the noise about Stem Cell research? Stem Cell research contains the destroying of human embryos for medical research. Despite the destroying of human embryos, Stem Cell research shines a light of hope for those who either suffer with or know someone suffering with deteriorating cells of the body.

Forbes article P.C. Stem Cells written by Matthew Herper on May 24 states that embryonic stem cell research has possibilities of curing many diseases. "Embryonic stem cells could be the key to solving this puzzle and to the treatment of diseases ranging from cancer to diabetes."

The National Institutes of Health states, "Stem cells can develop into different cell types. They may offer a renewable source of replacement cells to treat diseases, conditions, and disabilities."

The following quoted was also from the same article published by Forbes. "In 2001, President George W. Bush banned all federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research, except a few "pre-existing" stem cell lines."

Many people refused such an absurd idea as stem cell research. This was due in part to the many who had found it hard to grasp and to fully understand the possibilities that stem cell research could provide.

At the National Institutes of Health resource for stem cell research web site I found a mound of information on stem cell research. I recommend that you check it out for yourself at http://www.nih.gov/ .

The Iron Mountain Daily News published an article on stem cell research. The article was published Friday, November 09, 2007. The articles title is Adult Stem Cell Research. The author is Jim Wilcheck.

The article published by Iron Mountain Daily News talks about adult stem cell research and it's benefits. The article states, "Thousands of lives have been saved by adult stem cells. Twenty-six kinds of cancers have been treated. Patients with 16 types of auto-immune diseases have been helped. Adult stem cells have also been successful in treating patients with 10 types of anemia's and blood conditions, cardiovascular problems, corneal problems, immunodeficiency's, neurodegenerative diseases, wounds, injuries, metabolic disorders, liver diseases, and bladder diseases."

The article talks of the difference between embryonic stem cell research and the research of adult stem cells. In a nutshell, embryonic stem cell research is the destroying of an embryo for research purposes. The Adult stem cell research however, are stem cells taken from adults or umbilical cord blood. The adult stem cell research does not harm anyone.

Even though it appears as if stem cell research has come along pretty far, it seems that we have only hit the tip of the iceberg. The National Institutes of Health define stem cells as, "Cells with the ability to devide for indefinite periods in culture and to give rise to specialized cells."
