Colbert wore the boots on his Christmas special, "A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All," which premiered last Sunday on Jan. 23. Convinced that a bear is prowling around his cabin, Stephen Colbert refuses to leave his place, putting his Christmas special (which is being assisted by Elvis Costello and some very talented goats) at his New York studio in jeopardy. While attempting to fend off the "godless killing machine," Colbert is visited at his cabin by a variety of musical guests, including Willie Nelson and Feist. Jon Stewart also appears, who tries to entice Colbert into celebrating Hanukkah ("It's a sensible alternative to Christmas," he sings). Each guest also faces the threat of Colbert's mistletoe.
On a video embedded on the Ebay site ( found here ), Colbert explains that since we're "clearly admiring his boots" that he wore during his Christmas show, we can put our admiration to rest since he's putting up his unusual boots for sale.
"This is real yeti fur," Colbert jokingly assures. Among the other perks, Colbert brags that the owner "can literally walk a mile in my shoes" and that it comes with his calf sweat.
Once his boots are sold, Colbert will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to Feeding America, whose goal is to end hunger in the United States by providing assistance to food banks. In addition, whoever donates the most money to Feeding America from their PayPal account (through his Web site at www.colbertnation.com) will receive Colbert's Christmas sweater. A random drawing will be held among those who donated using the PayPal and MySpace IMPACT donation badge for his Christmas stockings.
As of Wednesday morning, Colbert's boots have received 40 bids. The latest bid is at $1,325.
"Won't you help me seem generous?" Colbert pleads.
This isn't the first time Colbert raised money through his ultra conservative pundit character. When he broke his wrist last year, he raised over $188,525 for injured U.S. soldiers by auctioning off his cast and selling "WristStrong" plastic bracelets, a play, of course, on Lance Armstrong's Livestrong bracelets.
Colbert's special will air again Nov. 27 at 11:30 p.m. and Nov. 28 at 3:00 p.m. eastern.
