Stephen Colbert Catches O'Reilly Using "Wisconsin" Footage with Palm Trees

Jeff Musall
Stephen Colbert aired a segment on March 2nd exposing yet another fake propaganda move by the good folks at Fox News. On the hour long blabber fest hosted by Bill O'Reilly, footage of supposed union thugs in Wisconsin had quite the warm weather look about it, up to and including palm trees.

The wrong scenery for the story being told has always been a little of a pet peeve of mine. If you watch "The Rock" you will notice such an anomaly. When the character played by Nicholas Cage and his girlfriend go to a church in Kansas to get the microfilm the movie was centered around, there are orange groves and mountains in the background.

Of course it's always done in film making, the trick is to hide it well. The majority of airport scenes in movies are shot at LAX. Even "Diehard 2," with all the snow supposedly falling outside. I was working at LAX when a scene from "City Slickers was shot.

At the end when Billy Crystal's character meets his family at the airport with Norman the calf and in the next scene they are driving over a bridge in New York City - you guessed it, shot at LAX. They were smart enough to slap New York plates on the cabs and cars in the scene. Fox could take lessons.

What I find astounding is that there are so many people watching Fox News that actually think it's anything approaching real news. How many times do they have to be shown manipulating video and broadcasting it as propaganda? Once again, false video has surfaced on the Bill O'Reilly show, one of the most watched pundits on television.

Of course, quite a few people watch professional wrestling too. The difference is, their dog and pony show isn't taken as gospel when it comes to news reporting. Sure, there are some hardcore fans who think wrestling is real, but most get it.

That's not the case with the moldy-headed minions watching Fox News. A pitiful lot, in some ways. You could almost feel sorry for them, if they weren't such self-righteous pompous blowhards.

Stephen Colbert catching Fox News and Bill O'Reilly using fake footage to try and score anti-union points shouldn't surprise anyone with an open mind. Remember, these are the same folks who threw in with Andrew Breitbart and his pimp and ho show they used against ACORN.

Funny thing is, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart get it right, even though they are the "fake news." It wouldn't be so bad if Fox played it the same way, obvious even to the most tea-soaked rightie that they are making stuff up.

See aclip of Stephen Colbert nailing Billo here.

C'mon, SW - don't fall so far down the propaganda hole...You know that was Billo's line after he got egg on his face. It was more than just a mistake, it was part of their continual campaign to manipulate information. And your remark shows, that at least on some, it works. Fox can do no wrong in the eyes of its flock.

"ha ha, Fox = stooopid?" Ahhh, you bright cats do realize your eagerness to jump on the bandwagon makes you look "stooopid" right? http://www.mediaite.com/tv/no-fox-news-did-not-lie-with-wisconsin-palm-tree-violent-protest-video/ Read this passage: "O’Reilly clearly identified the videos as collectively coming from “all over the country.” As many shows do, this B-roll footage was replayed again during the rest of the segment...." Feel STOOOPID yet? If not, you should...all of you cleaver little fools. And ya claim it's conservatism that mindlessly repeats nonsense. Thanks for proving to the world ya don't know your butt from a hole in the ground. Quite impressive!

I love how some of the smartest people I know are so blindly led by the nose when it come to political propaganda and drama. I feel sorry for them because it says so much about who they really are. By the way I shared the link and I wonder if the people who agree with him will be smart enough to keep their comments to themselves becuase this one is unwinable.
