Stephen Colbert Fans, Get Ready for Dessert
The Colbert Report is a spin off of The Daily Show and parodies conservative news/talk shows, specifically, The O'Reilly Factor. Colbert's character is a highly opinionated, right-wing, head-in-the-sand, news anchor who prefers forming his opinions based on his feelings, rather than bothersome facts. "Truthiness," coined by Colbert on his first episode of The Colbert Report and credited as "Word of the Year" by Merriam Webster in 2006, describes things that a person claims to know intuitively, instinctively, or "from the gut" without regard to evidence, logic, intellectual examination, or actual facts.
Ben & Jerry's has always used popular culture as a way to position their product. Other Ben & Jerry's ice creams named after people include Cherry Garcia, named after Jerry Garcia and Phish Food, which pays tribute to the band Phish.
Colbert feels his Americone Dream is very much a political statement. "I'm not afraid to say it. Dessert has a well-known liberal agenda," Colbert said in a statement. "What I hope to do with this ice cream is bring some balance back to the freezer case."
Proceeds from sales of Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream will be donated to various charities through the Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream Fund.

Post a CommentGreat article! I've been trying to find Stephen's ice cream since I first heard about it and wasn't having any luck until last week! I don't know why it took to long for stores in Charleston to start selling Americone Dream (you would think that Stephen's hometown would be among the first to have it), but I'm glad they finally did because it's delicious!
How cool is that? I'm gonna have to go get some. Now if they'd just come up with edible Jon Stewart, I'd be in heaven...
THIS IS SO AWESOME !!!! I love Stephen Colbert and his show on comedy central. I think he is really funny and smart at the same time which is a powerful one-two punch to have. I hope this is going to work out, ben and jerry's is also a great product.

My husband is a huge Ben & Jerry's fan and got me hooked on it back when we were dating. We don't have it that often these days because it has gotten so pricey, but we still get it every now and then as a special treat or when it goes on sale. We'll have to look for this one. It sounds yummy!
