Stephen Curry: The Rising Davidson Basketball Star
Who is Davidson College's Stephen Curry and Just How Bright is His Future and Potential?
Stephen Curry: High School Days at Charlotte Christian School / Transition To College
Stephen Curry was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and attended the Charlotte Christian School right in his hometown. While in high school, Curry amassed a ridiculous number of awards and accolades for his incredible basketball play. Charlotte Christian School won three conference titles while Stephen Curry played for them, and he was named the team MVP, all-conference, and all-state during his time there.
Curry was clearly a high school standout, but would his stellar statistical line translate well to the college basketball game? There were doubts present with regard to his ability to adapt to a new, faster game. His father, Dell Curry, was a standout player at Virginia Tech, and Stephen Curry desperately wanted to be a Virginia Tech Hokie. Curry was offered a spot on the Hokies roster, but he was only granted a walk-on spot on their roster.
Stephen selected Davidson College for his college basketball endeavors, picking the Wildcats over other strong mid-major basketball programs in Virginia Commonwealth and Winthrop.
Stephen Curry: Davidson College Career
Stephen has undoubtedly had a major impact on the basketball team at Davidson College. He made an instant splash as a freshman and quickly gathered national attention as they watched the young man play. After just his freshman year, he led the entire Southern Conference in scoring: a truly remarkable feat considering the quality teams which are present within the conference. He also set Davidson's school scoring record the same year, making some Davidson fans question whether he could be the best Davidson player of all time.
During his sophomore year, he led the SoCon in scoring again, all while leading the Wildcats to an undefeated in-conference record. He solidified his name after the regular season as easily one of the best players in all of college basketball. However, he was clearly not just satisfied with his in-season accomplishments, as he made a big impact for Davidson in the NCAA March Madness Tournament. Davidson, who was not supposed to advance far into the 2008 tournament, ended up accomplishing the Elite Eight. Curry's efforts were stellar but not enough against the Kansas Jayhawks, but his stats and his tough work ethic were clearly present throughout each game that Davidson played.
Stephen Curry is currently in his junior year at Davidson College, but may opt to leave for the NBA after this season. Without a doubt, Stephen is one of the few players in the college basketball world with an exceptionally bright future. He currently projects as a top five pick, according to ESPN, but could move into the top three with yet another standout season. Keep your eye on Stephen Curry closely, as many are considering him one of the greatest guards to ever play college basketball.
