Stephen Hawking Claims Science Topples Religion in His Newest Book

John Smith
In Stephen Hawking's newest book "The Grand Design," written with U.S. physicist Leonard Mlodinow, Hawking argues that "Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist."

Hawking, despite his struggle with neuro muscular dystrophy, has established himself as one of the leading scientists, his book receiving generally favorable reviews from the scientific community. See the original article here; http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100902/lf_nm_life/us_britain_hawking

While the battle between science and religion is nothing new, advances in technology and humanity's ability to explore the previously untouched cosmos has appeared to put fresh logs on the fire. Most recently, science seemed to claim a win, as a Pennsylvanian judge deemed intelligent design "pseudoscience unsuitable for teaching in Pennsylvanian schools."

However, that isn't the only time revelations have been made about the world. As science started to discover the reason for natural occurrences and the Earth's place in the galaxy, it seemed that this had to be viewed as anti-religious. Religious leaders often stood up to denounce these scientific breakthroughs and cling to their literal interpretation of the holy books.

What really becomes the issue in this argument is that science cannot disprove the existence of God or a creator any more than religion can prove one. The argument often gets so heated because most of it is based on the opinions of the speakers. I don't demand Stephen Hawking believe in God anymore than his book demands that I don't. Hawking may claim that God doesn't exist by his science, but how can he claim to disprove something that is impossible to define? Humanity as a whole is quick to view scientific discovery as a boon against God when in all reality they have nothing to do with each other. Take, for example, the story of creation in the Old Testament. Taking this story literally can be quite a bit to swallow. However, if looked at like a metaphor with a message, it can be a little easier to understand.

So many people are ready to throw science into battle with religion when they can so easily work in tandem. Science can absolutely find other planets in galaxies in the void of space, but couldn't they just have easily been created by a God figure? Science can claim spontaneous creation is the reason we exist, yet what is the starting catalyst? What is the beginning? This is the question that no one will be able to answer in our lifetimes. Even if random and spontaneous are key words in the universe, who or what was the initial catalyst?

Hawking's book will certainly have its effect on this heated debate, but will it be the end to the argument? No, instead it will flare up the usual arguments with both sides calling their own opinions fact. This argument has existed for over 2,000 years, and it shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

if stephen hawking says that universe can create it by itself ,then hawking should order all people carrying his book,A brief history of time < to burn at all.

Mr. Hawking,if you can convince me how you came out of nothing as a person, I may become one of your disciples.

Just to think of the multi races of people around the globe with multi knowledge and wisdom is enough to prove the existence of a SUPREME BEING or CREATOR. Believe in God my brother, accept JESUS CHRIST as your Lord and Savior and one day we will be together praising God in our heavenly mansions prepared for you and me and all others who come to believe in Him

You might be true by denying that God created the universe, but how can you explain the creation and appearance of multi races of people arond the world. Do you Mr. Hawking believe that you came out of nothing, or because there isw= our SUPREME GOD who createde you and me and all other individuals with unique colors and beauty.
I believe that God created me and you and all others in order to give meaning of our life and existence, much more that people must respect every one's right to live and enjoy.
Jesus Christ is the Savior of every individual who come to Him, believe in Him. Read the Bible and you will know the secrets of the Kingdom of God and you will learn the value of God's saving grace.

What st.Hawking propounds in his new book is nothing new.Since times immemorial there have been umpteen number of efforts to deny the existence of God. Such class of people will always be there, even when you prove the existence of God in a lab.Cant help.
Certain things are very obvious, if we have a clean and clear mind and heart. No scientific proof is required to tell you that fire burns or electric current shocks. If certain people fail to feel the existence of such obvious matters it shows they lack some thing, they lag behind, their personality is not fully developed. Beware, they cloak their flaws in scientific jargon. In India there is vast Vedic literature which proves the existence of God very convincingly;e.g. there are 564 axioms called "Brahma Sutra"s which are enough to convince one reg the existence of God. But the western world refuses to recognise all such material due to racial prejudices. The basic problem is their concept of 'science' itself is flawed. Modern science

'A Brief History of Time' was a masterpiece. Changing his mind after this much gap without any new invention or idea just lowered his status in my eyes.

Even a layman in physics like me can understand the hollowness of Hawking's statement. Who created gravity then? This is a gimmick by this man to get publicity for his new book.

Luckily for our 21st century civilization, science continues to expand its domain, while the domain of the scientifically illiterate and the willfully ignorant - such as the pseudoscience of intelligent design creationism - continues to shrink into insignificance. But those who wish to remain in the Dark Ages will continue their fight for their right to remain ignorant.

So Steven Hawking’s claims that there is NO Creator and states,
"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing.
    This Yoda is STUPID…
WITHOUT mass (weight) there is NO gravity and NO law of gravity!
If all mankind died off from the earth planet would god Hawking’s “human reasoning” also assume that cars, boats, planes, trains, trucks, skyscrapers, highways and the Pyramids of Egypt were Spontaneous Creations created “inevitably from the laws of nature?” This is just plain STUPID. His MIND is going the way of his diseased body.
Also, for Hawking’s to claim: “It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the Universe going”, just proves ‘the fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.” Psalms 14:1
GOD Created the Heavens and the Earth.
