Stephen King Trivia

As an avid fan of both Stephen King's novels and movies, I thought it would be fun to do an article on Stephen King trivia. Here are some of the fun facts that I came up with:

On June 19, 1999, Stephen King was accidentally struck by a vehicle. He was seriously injured, and suffered a bruised lung, broken leg and a laceration on his head.

King was diagnosed with macular degeneration, a condition that has no known cure and will probably lead to eventual blindness.

King makes an average of $40 billion per year.

Prior to publishing his first novel, King was employed as a dry cleaner.

King has made several cameo appearances in some of the silver screen adaptations of his novels.

Six of King's novels were originally published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. They are: "Rage," "The Long Walk," "Roadwork," "The Running Man," "Thinner" and "The Regulators."

King penned "The Running Man" in a mere ten days; the novel is 304 pages long.

King is the proud owner of three radio stations in Maine.

King is an avid fan of rock music. His favorite band is AC/DC and he plays in a rock band. The band is solely comprised of writers and is called "Rock Bottom Remainders."

Stephen King remains the most filmed author.

King is a recovering alcoholic. He was intoxicated the entire time he wrote "Cujo" and to this day, has no recollection of writing it.

Many of King's novels, such as "The Shining," feature alcoholic authors.

He is a close friend of George A. Romero, the horror director.

Stephen King sets many of his novels in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine. Rob Reiner, the director, named his production company Castle Rock Entertainment.

In October 1996, HBO paid King $1.5 million for the rights to his novel "Rose Madder."

King was forced to cut one of the death scenes from "Salem's Lot" at the request of the editor at Doubleday.

Stephen King does not sign autographs because he does not condone the idolatry of celebrities. He only gives autographs at book signings.

King's favorite horror film is "Tourist Trap" (1979).

King is a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox.

King listens to rock music to inspire him when he has writer's block.

King is a former cocaine addict. After an intervention by his wife, family and friends, he sought help and stopped using cocaine.

King's son, Joseph Hillstrom King is a novelist and writes under the pen name Joe Hill.

King is an avid fan of The Ramones.

In 1989, King was given the opportunity to write and direct the fifth film in the Nightmare on Elm Street saga, "A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child."

King is a big fan of the zombie film, "28 Days Later" (2002).
