Stephen King's "It", Disney's "Pinocchio" and "The Wizard of Oz": What Would Tim Burton Do?
Tim Burton: An Extraordinary Director
Tim Burton is so good at taking the average storyline and making it absolutely brilliant, that I asked around to see what movies might actually do better with the twist of Mr. Burton. My friends gave me a lot of ideas, but here are my picks.
Stephen King's "It", directed by Tim Burton.
I am an avid Stephen King reader. (I own about 90% of his books, all hardbound.)One of the novels I have read over and over is "It". "It" is a creepy, dark story about a monster that comes back approximately every 30 years and preys on children. The children are the only ones that can see this monster. If you have a fear of clowns, then do not watch or read this story. The monster is Pennywise the Clown. In the original movie Tim Curry plays Pennywise, and for me, not too well. Personally, I do not like Tim Curry, but many people I have spoken to, do. The movie does not do the book much credit, but it does have a few good spots. (
I firmly believe that if Tim Burton was elected to do a remake of this movie, with Stephen King's blessing, he would do a fantastic job with it. Tim Burton can take this dark story and make it even darker, without compromising the storyline. After much thought, I would like Michael Keaton to play the role of Pennywise. He has the comedic background, but as a Michael Keaton fan, I also know he is also a very dramatic actor. I can see him playing that character and bringing that movie to life.
Disney's "Pinocchio", Directed by Tim Burton
Everyone's favorite wooden boy is on a journey to become a real boy. We all know the story, but do we know the whole story? Remember the part of the movie where Pinocchio meets the evil little boy, Lampwick, and Lampwick convinces Pinocchio to travel with him to Pleasure Island? Can you imagine this movie from Lampwick's perspective and being played by the amazing Johnny Depp? Johnny Depp has appeared in multiple Tim Burton movies, and in each role, has played each unique character to the fullest possible. He makes the characters come alive as no other actor can. I believe Johnny Depp can bring Lampwick's story to life and, under the direction of Tim Burton's genius, will make a spectacular movie.
The Wizard of Oz, Directed by Tim Burton
There have been many, many remakes of The Wizard of Oz throughout the years, but none have come close to the original. Yes, the original is best, but have you ever wondered what Tim Burton could do to the story? With his mix of flamboyant colors and characters, just imagine what he could do. Now, if we could have actors from any time frame, not just current ones, then my line-up for this movie would be super. I would want Jim Carrey as the Scarecrow, Alec Baldwin the as the Tin Man, the late John Ritter as the Cowardly Lion and Kelly Clarkson as Dorothy. Each of these characters brings not only their unique forms of comedy and heart, but also song. Being a Tim Burton movie, Helen Bonham Carter must be in it, and I can see her playing the Wicked Witch of the West. Glenda, the Good Witch could be Julie Andrews and the best of all would be... drum roll please... Johnny Depp as The Wizard. Think about it, it could work! It would be one of the most original lineups yet, but that is just my opinion. What do you think?
