Stephenie Meyer Delights Homeschool Children and Teachers with Amazing Books

Reading Stephenie Meyer - A Plus for Student and Teacher

Little did I know how addicted I would become to the Stephenie Meyer books when my homeschooler first introduced them to me. She began, of course with the first of the Twilight series, being one of those readers who absolutely must read in sequence. She demands that any books I read of her recommendations be read in sequence as well. I felt that was bossy, but it is the best practice for gaining the most out of the stories.

We both became quickly engrossed in these books and eagerly awaited acquiring the next in the series after each finished book. Usually we shop at Amazon.com for our books, but the last time we bought a book we had to attend the Books-a-Million book release for Stephenie Meyer's latest release, "Breaking Dawn". My daughter was so thrilled that I agreed to buy her the book and attend the book release that she planned and discussed it almost nonstop the entire week before the August 2 release date. We invited two of her friends who agreed to dress up with her in the spirit of the book release party. They were thrilled to wear a dress and make-up to play along with the theme of the prom. Bear in mind, my daughter is a huge tom-boy who hardly ever forces herself into a dress!

The girls were so excited that their excitement wore off on me. Once we got to the party, I could feel the excitement in the air. It was our first book release to attend, and we weren't disappointed. There are certainly worse places to be on a Friday night than at a book store awaiting the next release of the newest favorite author in our collection. I enjoyed circulating through the bookstore and observing all the attendees who were also dressed accordingly for the party.

Much to our surprise, my daughter won the contest for dressing like Bella! I've never seen a child glow quite so much, especially not my daughter. We had not even known there would be a contest, which made it even more fun for her. There were also door prizes and a fun question and answer session about the Stephenie Meyer characters and their actions in previous stories we'd read.

Bella, Edward, Jacob, Alice, Jasper, Esme, and Carlisle are my favorite characters in the series. It wouldn't be complete without the rest of the characters, of course, but I choose these as being the closest to my own heart. My daughter of course, enjoyed the process of creating a home-made iron-on transfer of Edward and the Cullen family to place on a bag we'd bought in the craft section at Wal Mart. Then she won the contest and got another delightful bag from the party. This just made her whole night! It was wonderful to see my child so happy.

She and her friends eagerly lost themselves in the story as soon as the party was over, reading in the truck by booklights in a race to see who could finish the book first. They were the quietest teenagers I'd ever heard that night and all the next day. I had no worries about them being noisy and disruptive. They were lost in the fantasy world of Stephenie Meyer! Now I admit to being a bit impatient for my daughter to finish her book so I can engross myself in the story as well. I just now finished Eclipse, and it was awesome.

We've always loved reading, but we've never before become so engrossed as a team in an author's series, not even in the Harry Potter series, which we also very much enjoyed. Perhaps it is because my daughter is a teen now, so I can better relate to the types of books she likes.

Stephenie Meyer has gained our respect and newly devoted fans.
