Stephenie Meyer - the Next J.K. Rowling?

Stephenie Meyer was born in Connecticut, United States on December 4^th 1973. Stephenie, which is not a miss spelling but a given name from her farther Stephen + ie = me, writes in the genre of science fiction and fantasy aimed at the young adult age group. Like J.K. Rowling she has been successful in attracting not just that target audience but also a much wider age group. Mrs Meyer married a childhood friend Christian and has had three boys, which did not deter her from writing her first best seller.

Stephenie is well known for her series of best sellers "Twilight" and since the unforgettable dream Stephenie had in 2003 leading to the first book it has emerged that Stephenie Meyer was to be the next J.K. Rowling by following the series with the first movie in 2005. The other books in the series consist of the new moon, eclipse and breaking dawn. The breaking Dawn book was released on August 2, 2008; the final movie has not yet been released.

So is Stephenie Meyer the next J.K Rowling? Well let us first compare their achievements and see if Stephenie is on the right track. J.K. Rowling we all know is famous for the Harry potter series of books and films which have grossed her over $1 billion making her the second richest woman in show business and the richest woman in Britain, quite an achievement to live up to. It is not all about money and accumulative wealth; it is really about the books and what recognition they have received.

All of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books have been number one best sellers and gained worldwide recognition. Her rags to riches story from being on welfare to a multi-millionaire in just under 5 years has had a huge amount of publicity, but Joanne Rowling has not let it go to her head giving millions away to charities every year.

Joanne K Rowling was born on July 31^st 1965 in a small town called Yate, just south of Gloucestershire, England.

Even though J.K. Rowling has a good few years on Stephenie Meyers her achievements in a small period of time have been immense. From the 'Quill award for best book of the year' to 'Mythopoeia fantasy award' for children's literature, J.K. Rowling has won more than a handful of recognisable awards.

Stephenie Meyer's achievements are not looking too shabby either with recognitions by 2009 such as; the British Book Award, the New York Times best seller list and USA Today's list. The Twilight series held the top four places on USA Today's year-end list in both 2008 and 2009.

Her books have been published in 37 languages and have amounted to 100 million sales worldwide to date.

One of the spooky similarities between the pair is how they both arrived at the idea for their books; Stephenie Mayer was in a dream one night in which she envisioned the characters, for J.K. Rowling it was a day dream on a train journey from London to Manchester.

Although the achievements of J.K. Rowling may seem larger at this present time I think it is safe to say Stephenie Meyer is following in her footsteps and could be the next J.K. Rowling.
