Stephon Heyer Looks Foreword to Not Getting Beat Up by Raiders Fans

Washington Redskins fans will be rubbing their eyes when they see four-year veteran offensive lineman Stephon Heyer hit the gridiron in an Oakland Raiders uniform. The 27-year-old was one of four major Redskins dropped from the 2011 line-up. Heyer then scored a $1.7 million one-year contract with the Raiders, hammered out just before pre-season.

Heyer looks forward to earning his money for his new team. Heyer has publicly stated that he is more than willing to play whatever position his new team needs him, including guard, left tackle, wide out or safety. "If they give me the opportunity and I'll take it!" he announced.

Teamwork

He's not alone. Former Redskins string quarterback Jason Campbell wound up at Oakland in 2010. Heyer made it a point to inform reporter Rich Langford that Campbell's leadership skills have improved since moving to the West Coast. The August 29^th pre-season against the New Orleans Saints featured Heyer catching an impressive 14 yard pass from Campbell.

When asked how he was getting along with his new teammates, Heyer replied, "No one's said they hated me yet, so I'm good, right?" Right! However, he may have a harder time with the Raider fans. In the same interview, Heyer stated his hope that fans do not get so angry at him that they beat him up after a game.

During the Raider's summer camp, Heyer delighted the sweltering news crew by suddenly stopping an interview in mid-sentence and looking perplexed. He them pointed to the long, curly locks of Samson Satele as the Raiders center sauntered off of the field. "I thought that was [Troy] Polamalu," Heyer told reporters, then cried to Satele, "POLAMALU! He's using Head and Shoulders!" Satele just laughed, along with the news crews.

Heyer himself sports some impressive dreads, although they do not approach Satele's or Polamalu's lock length.

Not Gone Tomorrow

Heyer has recovered from a minor tricep tear injury sustained around mid-August. He's been wearing a protective sleeve since the injury to help support his arm. He predicts that his arm will not bother him throughout the rest of the season. Raiders fans see this injury as more of the usual luck that the best Raiders get. Perhaps this will assure Heyer of getting on the fans' good side after all.
