Stepping Away from Tradition

Donna Cavanagh
So often in life we seek out
That which makes us feel secure
Familiar places; familiar people
The same old path with no surprising detour

But sometimes on that rare occasion
Sparks inside us ignite
We search for adventure; a new mountain to climb
We abandon the darkness to follow a new light

Security has its purpose
It can keep us out of harm's way
But sometimes we need a break from the predictable
We need our life to go a little astray

When we say goodbye to the rules of the past
If we can step away from tradition
We can discover what strengths lie dormant within us
And dreams once abandoned, we can bring to fruition

Wonderful poem, Donna... traditions are good, but stepping away from traditions once in a while is also good.

Great poem. I think it is a good thing to do both. People have to allow room for change, but keeping some traditions are great.
