Steps to Maintain Optimum Cholesterol Levels

Cholesterol is a lipid which is produced in the liver and is used for the maintenance of fluidity and membrane permeability in the body. It is one of the most important and dangerous component in the body. Maintaining the levels of cholesterol can be a very great challenge and is a must for every person. However cholesterol is synthesized in two different methods. One is the natural method that takes place in our body. The liver in our body conducts a lot of reactions and conversions to produce the cholesterol. The other method is the cholesterol that we consume. Every item that contains fat in it is responsible for the presence of cholesterol as well.

The best cholesterol level that has to be maintained by every human depends on your height, weight, gender, age and blood pressure. Several hereditary factors can also affect the cholesterol content in one's body. The normal cholesterol level for a man is 40mg/dL and that for a woman is 50mg/dL. While these levels are considered to be the threshold, the maximum limit goes up to 230-240mg/dL. Above these levels, one is prone to have life threatening diseases.

To maintain the cholesterol levels the following steps can be followed:

1. Control over the diet gives a person a lot of control over the cholesterol content. Having a diet with no cholesterol can be harmful as well. One must always try to have a balanced diet. Avoiding high cholesterol content food like fish, meat, poultry and beef is always advisable.

2. Many physical activities should help a person to maintain the cholesterol content in the body. When one goes through a physical activity, the fat in the body is burned. By burning the fat, one reduces the cholesterol content in the body as well.

3. High levels of High Density lipoprotein also helps in reducing the cholesterol content in the body. The HDL content which is commonly known as good cholesterol is increased only by performing physical activities.

4. Reducing the Low density lipoprotein is also a method. The reduction in LDL content can be done by avoiding the food containing trans-fat. In order to replace the trans-fat, saturated fat can be consumed.

These are just some of the methods that can be followed to maintain an ideal cholesterol level. Apart from these steps there are several medicines that can be taken to maintain the cholesterol level. However, taking medicines that are comprised of chemicals can have their own side effects on the body. They can lead to lower immunity and harm to the intestines. Hence, usage of herbal remedies is always advisable.Guggal is a flowering plant which has proven to increase the HDL levels. It also prevents the occurrence of several diseases like atherosclerosis, psoriasis and cardiac ischemia. Coriander seeds also act as good cholesterol controlling agents. Onion juice is a tonic that has a huge effect on the cholesterol levels of the body. With so many options available, one should take proper diet to lead a healthy life.
