Shut Down Power Supply

You should turn off the power first even when there is no water near the outlets or electrical devices in the flooded area. Salvage Items by Air Drying

Some of the objects may be salvaged by air drying. Clothing or such launder-able items can be dried first taking out the water by wringing and then drying in a drier to salvage. Wooden furniture may get damaged by absorbing water. It should be removed as fast as can be done. After the bulk quantity of water has been removed, it is better to continue sorting items and moving them to the safest places. Just piling up objects outside should be avoided. All salvageable items should be spread in the sun if possible on a flat surface to dry up all clothes should be washed before drying them

Provide Ventilation

Open all the windows in the flooded area for proper ventilation as you continue the work of cleaning the items. If it is safe to use the fans for drying, install them. Making a continuous flow of the air in the wet area will reduce the chances of growth of the mold. Even the dying of the area and the objects will be faster.

Drying Items by Freezer

Some items may be very dear to you and are wet. Freeze drying is a process which can be used to salvage all such items. Professional people have special freezers. A freezer with anti frosting ability is can be used. Setting of freezer should be below -10 degrees. Items should be kept in the freezer for a number of weeks to make them dry.
