Stereotyping and the Other Women

May
To be honest, I am sick and tired of people calling the third party, especially a woman the home-wrecker. It's as if the married man who eagerly slept with her is not accountable for betraying his family. I agree it is reasonably deceitful for someone to go after a married man or woman for that matter, but one can always point out a greater deceit in the man's immoral actions since he's the one who took the vow, the one who's got children and the one who's got a family he deceived.

We can even see a typical scenario in the society wherein a man involved with a married woman isn't seen as a home-wrecker but rather "worshiped" by other men because he was able to do what they think as a sign of machismo. What about the married woman? Oh we know what happens to her. The society will scorn her for betraying her family and putting a dent on her marriage.

So why is this not happening when the third party is a woman and the cheating party is a man? Simple, that's how the society goes, that's how the stereotypes rule, which is really sad. I think though that the term home-wrecker should be smeared on the one who is under the solemn ties of the matrimony and can't stay devoted to these ties, not the outside person. Of course, the third party's moral fiber is also questionable involving her or himself with a married man or woman. However, the word home-wrecker doesn't always apply to them.

Take for example what happened to Sienna Miller and Rielle Hunter. They became involved with men who are married; men who are supposed to show empathy towards their spouses; men who should have shown consideration for their children; men who are expected to give value to their vows. Still, the press put all the blame to the third party, when both Sienna Miller and Rielle Hunter were ridiculed and mocked by the public.

I often wonder why the society is so enthusiastic and willing to spurn these women. Again, I agree that their actions speak for them; however, the men can always say "no", and choose to stay faithful to their families.

Great analysis! I say that because I think you read my mind on this one (or, maybe, I've been reading your mind).
