Steroid Ring Bust: Major Sports Stars Accused

Robert Guinn
Steroids in the sports arena have always been a problem and still are to this day. Players take these drugs to up their performance in an illegal way, pumping up their bodies so they can hit hard, go longer, and become faster. The problem has become a more controlled issue in recent years but still continues. However a recent raid in Orlando Florida as well as in other areas around the country has put suspects away for selling these drugs illegally over the internet, but some of their customers buying the product may surprise you.

Four workers at Orlando based "Signature Pharmacy" were arrested last month in connection with selling steroids illegally over the internet. These employees have confessed to the crimes, and turned the names of their buyers over to authorities, and they were shocked.

The men arrested and charged claim to have sold their illegal products to high profile sports figures. These include baseball star Gary Matthews Jr. of the Las Angles, Boxing champion Evander Holyfield, and Armature and pro wrestling star Kurt Angle. These players and their publicist have denied the accusations to date, except Gary Matthews Jr. The evidence however from the Orlando based and other raids is so strong that the district attorney of Albany New York is going forward with an investigation and prosecution concerning the matter.

On February 27, 2007 the steroid ring was busted. This ring included over two dozen doctors, pharmacist and companies that were, or will be arrested following charges. These companies and those involved were found in areas in Florida, Texas Alabama and New York. Steroid prescriptions, particularly Testosterone enhancers were prescribed to former and current NFL players, MLB players, high school coaches, collage athletes, a former Mr. Olympia champion, and another top contender in the body building competition.

It is always a shame, and disappointment when good, or even great players have to use such tactics to win. These types of incidents are so looked down upon by fans and members of the sporting community that you would think that these professional athletes would have better sense then to throw away their careers on something so trivial as, how fast they can run, or how far they can throw a ball. How about good old fashioned weight training sessions? Hard work, blood sweat and tears, that's the only way to accomplish what you need to in the sports world.

Some of those accused may be innocent, and the law states innocent until proven guilty, so I will not judge. That being said, those found guilty of this offence should receive a harsh punishment for their actions. These dealings and happenings in the sports world do nothing but hurt the integrity that has long been the foundation of these games. There is no room in the sports world or industry for those who have tarnished the great reputations of these sports.
