STEVE CARLSON ROCKS SCIFI FANS in CHICAGO

M R Reed
Last Saturday, November 10th at the Creation Convention Salute to Supernatural/Smallville/Buffy The Vampire Slayer event held in Chicago, urban music star Steve Carlson rocked the house down with his own unique style of country/urban folk rock music.

In 2004 Carlson formed the Steve Carlson band along with Bassist Steve Dress, Drummer Timothy Jimenez and Saxophonist David Olivas and their unique style of storyteller's music became a huge hit on the LA club scene and Carlson continues to draw crowds to his Sunday night performances at the L'Scorpion club in Los Angeles. In the summer of 2005 The Steve Carlson Band released their first album, Rolling On and widened their listening audience. The album included back up vocals by Carlson's good friend, actor Jensen Ackles who has since gone on to star as Dean Winchester in the hit CW/Warner Bros. series Supernatural.

Coming off of a highly successful tour in England, where his refreshing style of urban grassroots music was met with enthusiasm by British fans, Carlson who has music ties to the series Supernatural - his song 'Night Time' was featured in the Supernatural season one episode 'Provenance'- was tapped by Creation Entertainment to perform a live concert for fans attending the Creation Salute to Supernatural/Smallville/ Buffy the Vampire Slayer event held in Chicago the weekend of November 10-11th. The concert was held on Saturday night and fans that attended were treated to an amazing display of musical entertainment.

Steve Carlson's music is refreshingly open and honest, without the trappings of commercialization and artificial enhancement. While many musicians are realizing they want to present their music as 'stripped' and get back to a more simplistic style, with his trademark raspy voice and unprocessed way of telling a story within his music, Steve Carlson has never left this kind of direct and honest approach to sharing his music. Carlson continues to remain true to the roots of his music, never straying from the raw energy found in this mix of Jazz, R&B and country style rock music that goes into his work as a musician. Carlson keeps it simple and that's what makes his music stand out to his audience.

When Carlson is in concert, the audience can't help but get caught up in the man onstage and the heart and soul he puts into that music. For an hour, the audience at the Creation event was held in rapt by a man with nothing more than a guitar and his voice, both of which rang pure and clear with the soul of a storyteller and his music. Carlson had the audience singing and clapping along to songs like 'Rocking Chair,' 'Wasted Jamie' and 'Hummingbird Billy'. Then in turn reaching out to touch the emotions of the audience with such 'from the heart and life experiences' songs as 'You Belong With Me', 'Under You', 'Elena', and 'Chloe Bowed Her Head'. All of which earned Steve Carlson a well-deserved standing ovation from a crowd that could have gone on listening to him sing from his heart to theirs about things that all of us can relate to in our lives.

The Steve Carlson Band has a Christmas Album currently available 'Auld School Christmas' and Carlson has just released his album 'Groovin on the Inside' which is his first full-length collaboration with his friend and music producer, Darren Sher.
