The Phoenix Suns got off to a great start to the new season , displaying superb offensive efficiency that allowed them to move to 7-1 in the Western Conference standings. Steve Nash has been the primarly reason for the red hot streak the Suns have began, he played like a 25 year old success hungry point guard , that led his team with his floor awareness , his vision and passing skills.
No doubt Chris Paul's numbers so far in the season have been even more impressive than the Canadian's.
He is averaging 26.3 points per game to go along with 9.8 assists. Probably the most striking improvement to his game in comparison to the last season , is the unbelievable 3 point shooting percentage of almost 70%.
But despite his performances , the Hornets are off to a very slow start being just 3-5 for the season.
A major reason for those 5 losses is the lack of support for the All Star point guard.
During the first seven games of the campaign the Hornets seemed out of sync on both sides of the floor, lacking communication and confidence in their own skill.
They showed some positive signs in their last game against the Clippers , where they showcased their best performance of the season , routing the home side by 28 points. The poor form determined coach Scott to reshuffle the line up using Devin Brown and Peja Stojakovic as starters. And they responded great, especially Brown who had a season high 25 points facilitated by strong perimeter shooting.
So if the Hornets want to stand any chance against the Suns their shooters must repeat the performace dispayed during the Clippers game.
And that still might not be enough to sting the Suns , because Nash's supporting cast is much better than Paul's . The veteran point guard will probably be outscored by CP3 , but Jason Richardson's hot hand combined with the additon of 3 point shooter Channing Frye from the Knicks and the strong play in the key provided by Stoudemire will enable the Suns to emerge as winners.
Another advantage for the home side is their bench production. Brazilian Leandro Barbosa and uprising star Goran Dragic will surely dominate the Hornets bench led by out of form veteran James Posey and their new additions , Darius Songalia and Bobby Brown.
So this facts indicate an easy double digit win for the Suns but with players like Chris Paul on the floor you can't take anything for granted.
Let's just hope that the injury Paul suffered by landing on former teammate's foot Rasual Butler , during their last outing won't affect his game ,so that the NBA fans can witness a great matchup between two premier point guards.
