Steve Phillips Fired; Brooke Hundley's MySpace Reads She's "Hopeful"

The Steve Phillips Scandal is the Scandal that Keeps on Giving

Brooke Hundley's MySpace page has become a hot item (along with Steve Phillips getting fired) even though it is a private account and Hundley has to add one as a "friend" for one to get access to rest of the account. Brooke Hundley, the 22-year-old production assistant that ESPN analyst Steve Phillips had a three-encounter affair with over the summer, posted on her MySpace account that she was "hopeful" the day the scandal broke via the New York Post. Otherwise, the girl at the center of the Steve Phillips scandal isn't talking. Steve Phillips hasn't been talking, either, but he has been fired. ESPN fired him Sunday evening. But have they fired Brooke Hundley? It does not seem so and there are no doubt many clamoring to find out why. But her MySpace page hasn't changed. Still "hopeful."

ESPN announced Sunday that Steve Phillips was fired because his "ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways." In other words, the sports analyst had finally become to much of an embarrassment to the company for them to keep paying him.

But it all began with the New York Post's expository last Wednesday, throwing light on the shady affair Steve Phillips had with Brooke Hundley over the summer. It became part of the public record because of the various police reports filed in August concerning Brooke Hundley's "obsessed and delusional" behavior towards Phillips and his family.

Marni Phillips, Steve's wife, began receiving ominous phone calls from Brooke Hundley. Hundley even left her a voice-mail where she yelled that they both could not have him (Steve Phillips). Marni Phillips even caught the smitten 22-year-old in her driveway at the Phillips' Wilton, Connecticut home. As she attempted to leave, Hundley backed into a stone column of the house. She left a letter that detailed her sexual exploits with Phillips. Afterward, Steve Phillips would say in a police report that he was afraid for his children's and his own safety. But then he refused to press charges against Hundley.

The very next day, August 20, in a strange twist Brooke Hundley filed for a restraining order against Steve Phillips.

Adding still another wild turn in the sordid saga, the Phillips' 16-year-old son also gave the police a statement, maintaining that Brooke Hundley had allegedly posed as a teen classmate to gather information about his parents. In the statement, the young man said that Hundley had even attempted several times to friend him on Facebook.

Marni Phillips apparently had had enough and by September 14, she filed for divorce.

But that convoluted story was only part of the scandal (and multiple scandals) that would embroil the former New York Mets General Manager, his family, Brooke Hundley, ESPN and many others as the tabloids had a field day with all the information. By October 25, ESPN had had enough. They fired Steve Phillips.

Meanwhile, Brooke Hundley's MySpace page was still reading "hopeful."

A representative for Steve Phillips said in an e-mail: "is voluntarily admitting himself to an inpatient treatment facility to address his personal issues."

Although it is mere speculation at present, part of the personal issues the former ESPN analyst will no doubt be addressing will be sex addiction.

Back in 1998, Phillips admitted to have sex with a New York Mets employee named Rita Rodriguez. She sued him for sexual harassment and they settled their case out of court. In the meantime, he admitted to a string of affairs while he was the Mets General Manager. And since news of the Brooke Hundley affair broke, more speculation has surfaced as to Phillips infidelities while being at ESPN (he was hired in 2004).

And then Steve Phillips was fired.

Brooke Hundley, as far as anyone knows, still works as a production assistant at ESPN. No statements about the status of her employment have been offered.

Perhaps that is why Brooke Hundley's MySpace page still reads "hopeful."
