Steven Hayes Death Penalty for Murder of Petit Family Members
The jurors have come to a decision in the Steven Hayes case, The jury found that Steven Hayes was not impaired mentally when he did these crimes. He was in his right mind and new what he was doing.
He and an accomplice killed three members of the Petit family of Connecticut in the most horrendous crime the State of Connecticut has ever seen.
Hayes is stoned faced as he was read the 6 death penalty verdicts. The crimes were committed against Jennifer Petit and her two daughters, Hayley and Michaela Petit. The father Steven Petit was barely alive as he crawled out of the basement after the family of four was attacked.
Steven convicted on 16 of 17 counts. He has been found guilty and given the death sentences in these counts:
Count 4 - Capital Felony Murder for the murder of two or more persons at the same time.
Count 5 - Capitol Felony Murder for a person under 16 years of age for Michaela.
Count 10 - murder of a kidnapped person for Mrs. Petit
Count 11 - murder of a kidnapped person for Hayley
Count 12 - murder of a kidnapped person of Michaela
Count 13 - murder of a sexually assaulted victim - Jennifer Petit
With each of the death penalty verdicts, it makes an appeal for this case even harder.
Jurors are crying and the other jurors are comforting them. This emotional trial has taken its toll on the jury.
