Steven Seagal Stars in New A&E Series Lawman

Greg Seltz
Apparently A&E is desperately seeking ratings after their latest venture into the life of the Louisiana police department, featuring Chief Deputy Steven Seagal. According to the synopsis, Seagal has been employed by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office more than 20 years. When my brother mentioned recently that he had witnessed a bizarre new television series introducing Seagal cast in his typical role, I was astonished at how A&E produced such ridiculous entertainment. I immediately postponed the priorities and responsibilities of my current employer to fabricate this article. Fear not, I am paid for my value, not my time.

About the show:

For those unfamiliar with actor Steven Seagal, the individual has attained a reputation for being a respected, seventh-degree black belt in Aikido. His films, unfortunately, have not obtained such prestige and tend to be released straight to DVD. Luckily, A&E television series release similarly. The chief has selected his own deputies to comprise an elite force of highly trained, dedicated officers. Seagal's role: To patrol the mean streets of Louisiana, accompanied by unsuspecting civilians, and resolve criminal matters with his extensive martial arts skills.

Personally, as previously expressed, I should refrain from any state of surprise or astonishment. After all, modern television series consists of dramatized events mimed by actors. Hell, recent commercials have advertised series featuring washed up musicians, bounty hunters, even cons with pit bulls. I find it humorous that my brother recently purchased a DVD set which included a free movie; of course, the freebee was no other than a Steven Seagal classic. I will not oppose nor comment on whether Seagal is qualified to instruct such training; after all, I assume his black belt was not easily obtained. However, I do question his police officer status for the past 20 years. Did he take a leave of absence each time he was needed on the set? Or come to think of it this way...........What would you do if Steven Seagal pulled you over for a speeding ticket?
