Steven Slater's Jet Blue Escape Beer? Seems it was a Once in a Two Blue Moon Opportunity

Many Have Been Wondering What Kind of Beer Steven Slater Grabbed Before Jumping; Appropriately Enough, it was Blue Moon

The Steven Slater job-quitting incident has sparked plenty of coverage and even more commentary, maybe as much as Sarah Palin quitting her job mid-flight. And although there is now a little doubt that the incident that supposedly set the Jet Blue flight attendant on his chute-sliding adventure into modern folkloric history even occurred, until proven otherwise, the story stands. Even so, one small aspect of said oft-reported incident had been bothering sticklers of detail -- there had been no identification of the brand of beer Steven Slater swiped just before he jumped from the plane. So TMZ found out. As it turns out, according to TMZ, the Jet Blue flight attendant made his getaway with an appropriately named ale -- Blue Moon.

It may not have been the "Champaigne of Beers" but it was definitely "Miller Time" for Steven Slater after a flight from Pittsburgh to New York saw the 28-year veteran flight attendant get into two separate confrontations over overhead baggage on the short trip. After the second confrontation, where the flight attendant reportedly exchanged words with a passenger who was attempting to retrieve some baggage before the plane came to a stop, the usually by-the-book Slater found a public address system microphone and said the following exit lines: "To the passenger who called me a 'm***** f*****,' f*** you! I've been in the business 28 years. That's it. I'm done."

He then grabbed two beers -- Blue Moon beers, it seems -- and released the plane's emergency exit chute. Beers in hands, he jumped, sliding to the tarmac below.

Since the incident, speculation as to what brand of beer had been Slater's escape beer of choice has been part of the dialogue. Many have suggested that the beer company, once identified, should sign Steven Slater to a contract for promotional purposes.

And it seems that Steven Slater may have chosen well. His escapade may have been a once-in-a-lifetime event, a rare occurrence, something that would happen "in a Blue Moon." With a brand name like Blue Moon, the options are limitless as to what could be done with advertising campaigns. But Slater might have to wait some time before he signs any contracts. If he is convicted of the numerous charges against him (related to his deployment of the emergency chute), he just might have to wait as much as seven years to pull off another unique stunt as well (not to mention star in commercials or ad campaigns).

Of course, a brand like Bud Light could sign him to a contract and use him in their "Real Men of Genius" campaign.

But in the meantime, Steven Slater can bask in his quasi-notorious fame as a working class hero. He has become the darling of the media, even though he has said little about the incident (for legal reasons, no doubt). His Facebook page has acquired over 200,000 fans. There is a "Free Steven Slater" Facebook page as well as other fan sites. Jimmy Fallon of NBC's "Late Night" wrote a song highlighting the beer, singing "Take two beers and jump." Stephen Colbert named Slater his "Alpha Dog of the Week." Numerous t-shirts regaling him and his momentous slide are available online. And there are rumors that he may even have been offered spots on reality shows.

It is his 15 minutes. Sometimes that's all one gets, that once in a blue moon opportunity, so perhaps Steven Slater should go for the gusto while he can. Perhaps Blue Moon Brewing Company should hire him as a spokesman (although the drinking responsibly line might be a little stretched). Regardless, the incident is free advertising (for both) at its best.

Great title, and he has given Blue Moon a ton of free publicity!
