Steven Slater's Stories Make No Sense

Jet Blue Air Attendant's Claims and Behavior Don't Add Up

With Steven Slater, the Jet Blue flight attendant who flipped out and 'escaped' a grounded airplane earlier this week, it is increasingly apparent that nothing is what it seems.

Nothing about Slater, 38, seems to add up. First, it was reported that Slater was found by police at home and in bed with his boyfriend. The next day, however, his ex-wife, yes, female wife, came out in the papers and discussed her relationship with him.

Today, however, it sounds as if she may not be his ex-wife after all. They are, it seems, still technically married, and have been since 1991, even if they have been apart for since 1992 even though Slater is attracted to men. In 2006, his wife filed divorce papers, presumably because it was about time. She listed 'fraud' as the reason for divorce. That wouldn't seem to be terribly surprising, given the circumstances.

There is more, though. Slater, in the speech he made to stunned passengers before leaving the plane via an emergency exit, yelled, "To the f ***ing a** hole who told me to f ** k off, it's been a good 28 years!"

Given that Slater is only 38, he would have had to begun working as a flight attendant as a ten year old in order for his statement to make any sense. Further clarification of his career includes the fact Slater took a five year leave of absence in the middle of his career. Really, he seems to have worked fifteen years in total as a flight attendant, not the 28 he referenced in his rant.

But Slater's apparent sexual confusion and exaggeration on how many years he worked seem rather minor when compared to a story appearing today in several media outlets that nobody on the plane saw happen what Slater claims happened prior to his emergency exit departure.

The story that Slater gave to authorities was that a passenger was rude to him and refused his direction to sit down. Shortly later, according to Slater, either a bag fell from an overhead or the overhead door itself fell and hit him on the head. Supposedly, these events caused Slater to lose his temper, grab some beers, make his now infamous speech and open an emergency exit before running home to drink and be with his boyfriend.

The only problem is, Port Authority investigators have interviewed forty passengers on the flight and not one remembers seeing any incident with a passenger.

While it's not clear yet what exactly happened, nothing about Steven Slater seems to add up.
