Steven Tyler Back in Rehab

Andrea Rowe
Steven Tyler from Aerosmith is in rehab again. I am so proud of him for shaking off the stigma and going back. Imagine being sober for a lot of years and not wanting to let those you inspired to get sober down. I think the general public has known something was wrong for a while now. When he was injured in that fall several months ago, the word was everywhere that he had either relapsed or would. A lot of times when long-term relationships end someone who relied on the other person to remain clean will lose his or her sobriety and Steven's marriage to Teresa ended some time ago. I personally thought he might have slipped then-especially when reports of his new rowdy girlfriend emerged.

What people do not get about drug addiction is that even when you are clean for many years one little slip up can send you right back where you were. Your brain physiologically changes. For a time while doing drugs, yes, you have a choice but eventually it becomes where you do not have a choice. Your body gets sick, your brain literally changes. After being on sleep medication (physician's orders and taken as ordered), I know this firsthand. No, I've never done the things Tyler has. I am not making excuses for him either. I am just thrilled he is getting help and hopefully will not become another rock star junkie death. He's been in a lot of pain over the past ten years. I can't imagine those injuries from the things he does in concert. Seriously folks, he's my superman.

One of the things that drew my husband and I together was Aerosmith. We went to the 2002 tour in Memphis, TN and it was the first time I knew my husband loved me. Rather than make his way to the stage to grab onto Steven's shoe, he let me. I kept touching it and letting go and touching it and letting go. The other lady held his other shoe the whole time and I wanted to smack her so he could move.

Dear Steven, you must do all you can to be healthy and live so I can meet you someday and maybe shake your hand. My husband and I are such huge fans our son would be named Tyler but that was already his cousin's name. Since you are my mom's age, I may not have much time. Call me!

Boy, I hope you have him sign it with carbon paper as I'm from the old Woodstock era. I'm probably the only grandpa on my block that loves Led Zepplin and Beethoven's Fifth! : - )
