Steven Tyler Confirms He is Doing American Idol 2011

The Steven Tyler-American Idol marriage appears to be official. Steven Tyler confirmed his involvement with American Idol 2011 during some questions from website TMZ. According to TMZ, when asked if he would be doing American Idol, Tyler told the cameras, "I'm doing it... What do ya think? I'm doing it!" This is news that Idol fans have been waiting for, in the sense that it brings some confirmation to all of the rumors that Tyler would be doing the next season of American Idol. Some might not accept this as gospel until Fox issues its own press statement about the new American Idol judge's table, but getting Tyler to openly admit that he is doing Idol now is a pretty big step toward official confirmation.

Getting someone like Tyler, who has been the lead singer for rock band Aerosmith for many years, is a good "get" for American Idol. Tyler is someone who has been a musical superstar, written some of the most famous rock songs of all time, and is the front man for a band that nearly everyone recognizes. He knows a lot about music, so getting someone on the panel with both his experience and knowledge can only be a good thing. The only thing that can be argued here is whether his personality is right for the show, and whether he will mesh well with the other judges that American Idol producers decide to put on the panel this next season. From his standpoint, Aerosmith is probably going to see a huge surge in music sales due to his involvement with the show.

If we are to believe the rumors, the addition of Tyler means that the judge's panel will have Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler next season. It seems, at least on paper, to be an odd combination of judges, but it's possible that Idol producers know something that we do not. There is also the chance that a fourth judge could still be added to the show, as there were also strong rumors about negotiations between the show and Jessica Simpson. Simpson also doesn't seem to fit in with this group of musical talents, but there probably weren't that many people who thought the original team of Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul would work either. With Tyler confirming what many thought could not possibly be true, it looks like Idol is definitely still heading in a new direction for 2011. That isn't necessarily a bad thing either.

I am soooo glad Steven Tyler is on the next "Idol" season. I have only flipped through channels before to see some of Idol at a glance and continued on not watching but, NOW I will be glued to the tube and taping and rewatching. Cannot get enough of Steven Tyler guest spots, interviews, concerts, etc. and to meet him live oh yeah....

TLMZ is not a reliable source & FOX has NOT yet confirmed this, so it may or may not be a rumor. No one knows until FOX speaks. The only things FOX confirmed was Ellen DeGeneres leaving (along with Simon Cowell) and Nigel Lythgoe is returning as the series' executive producer (he initially left to go on to pursue "So You Think You Can Dance".) FOX had NOT confirmed any contracts yet NOR that Kara DioGuardi is fired.

Oh, please. What a lame, insulting choice to replace the man who defines American Idol. And I'll bet it's another Bret Michaels case in which Fox made no offer except in his mind.
