Stickers Help Preschoolers Create Thanksgiving Crafts
Stickers Help Develop Manual Dexterity, Hand Eye Coordination and Creative Expression
Materials:
Plain white paper
Seasonal stickers
Crayons or markers
Stickers can be used to stimulate creativity
Using stickers for childrens crafts doesn't sound very creative but it can be a very creative activity for young children. The stickers allow the child to explore seasonal items and holiday symbols and to use them by sticking them on a plain white piece of paper and then add their own drawings to add a background, familiar figures such as family members or pets or buildings such as their house.
Stickers can be used for manual dexterity and manipulation
Peeling and placing stickers demands the use of muscles. Hand and eye coordination is challenged as the stickers are placed to create a scene. Parents may even draw a shape on the paper and encourage the child to place the stickers within the designated shape to encourage manual dexterity.
Stickers can be used in combination with other materials
Having crayons or markers available to add creative drawings allows the child to use the stickers in a way which encourages embellishment. Once the stickers are placed on the paper the child may decide to add drawings to create a story setting. Most of the time the child will freely share their thoughts as well as the story behind the picture they have created.
This seemingly simple craft is much more complex than one may think. Using stickers helps preschool children, and even older children, with self expression, manipulation and manual dexterity. Stickers may be ordered online, purchased at craft stores or at education supply stores at a nominal fee. Encouraging children to use the stickers to create pictures, fill shapes or to create a story page may be an activity that allows older children to work with their younger siblings too.
