Stila Noire Palette - a Review

Layla A.
When I see the Noire Palette, I think Stila. This is classic Stila at its best. Unfortunately, their classic best is not my favorite.

COLOR

The colors in this palette are simply beautiful. They are unnamed, so I just call them by their shade. With the Stila Noire Palette, you get three eyeshadows and a blush color. The blush is in the bottom right hand corner, and it is a bright pink. Then, you get a sparkly black in the bottom left hand corner. On the left and right on the top, you get a pink-beige color and a medium blue. In the palette, these colors are gorgeous. They go so well together and are perfect for a neutral eye with a pop of subtle color. When swatched, you can't see much. There is a slight tint of color, but in order to get any color at all, you have to really work with the colors and pack them on. To me, this is a product waster and a money waster. However, this is not the color's fault; this is a formula issue.

FORMULA

My Stila shadows are the softest ones that I own; lots and lots of fallout, but very, very soft. However, when you strive for a soft shadow, you lose a lot of pigmentation and color payoff. The only time I will see any color from these is when I sit there with my brush and pack it on for five minutes with each color. To me, this is ridiculous! The formula of these shadows makes them inefficient and only usable by people with a lot of time. The blush is the only thing that will show up alright, but the color does not blend extremely well and I find it a weird color- way too bright for my fair skin.

FUNCTIONALITY

This palette is a complete look, but is only suitable for people with a lot of time to get ready in the morning. If used correctly, however, this palette is good for a day look or a night look. I usually use the lightest color all over my lid, up to my brow; the blue goes on my lower lash line and the crease; and then I use the black as upper line and attempt to blend it into my outer corner. When I use this palette, it is never my favorite look. This is definitely not a time-efficient palette, but if you have the patience, this could be great.

PRICE

This palette is discontinued, but originally retailed for $32. I don't know where you could find this, but I would look on eBay. For this price, each color is $8, which is not a bad deal if you were to buy them separately.

PACKAGING

The packaging is my favorite thing about this product. I know- I always say that. This is a square, with black velvet and a white flower pattern inside the velvet. It reads 'Stila' on the front in their signature font, and it comes in a silver box with the same flower pattern in blue.

FINAL OPINIONS

The packaging is the only reason this palette stays in my vanity. I love the colors in the pot, but on me, they just do not work. If you are feeling adventurous, I encourage you to find this palette online. It is selling for less now, so you won't be losing much if you dislike it like I do. I do not heavily recommend this, but for anyone that has the patience and extra time, this would be great. I have not applied these wet yet, so they might be better that way, but I couldn't tell you. If you have this palette and recognize the things I am talking about, try applying them wet. It might just work.
