Still Monday

Still Monday

It didn't matter how hard he looked at the clock he knew it was still Monday. A hated day, no good could ever come from it. Not today, not any Monday.

Smiles, those damn smiles everywhere. What did they have to look so happy about?

"How was your weekend, Jack?"

"Hey been out on the beach, you look good?"

"Did you see that game?"

What made them so happy? There had to be some secret to it, so why couldn't they share it with him?

They hated him, laughed at him behind his back, that had to be the answer. It was the only thing that made sense. Every Monday it was the same. Those painted smiles, happy questions, hugs, laughter, bright conversation.

Cruel. They were cruel, evil, dark, and out to hurt him with their fake laughter.

Who really laughed on a Monday?

The hands on the clock moved so slowly, too slowly. He'd been here long that that, they were playing tricks on him. Altering the clock, making his life even worse than it already was.

Laughter, why did they always laugh so loud, but kept him out of the joke?

He was the joke, that had to be the answer.

It was the only answer that made sense.

"Hey there David, come on, give us a smile, its not all that bad, just another Monday morning."

Morning, it couldn't still be morning.

"What's so good about it?"

"Oh don't be like that, come on, just a smile. It won't kill you."

What trick where they playing on him now?

"Just one smile, go on."

He wasn't going to fall for it, not this time. He'd come prepared for their games. No more, he'd take no more of this.

"What you got there David? A present for us all? Odd shaped box, hey flowers, you brought flowers maybe?"

Cold, the metal was cold under his fingers, but spat fire across the room. Spilling red and grey across the office. Click, turn, another spray of color. Jack, Mary, Helen, and Nigel.

So easy.

One, two, three, four.

All done, all gone.

It didn't work though, it was still Monday.
