This time, it was in Parkersburg, Iowa and the victim was Coach Ed Thomas, a 2005 NFL High School Coach of the Year.
Who was the killer? It doesn't matter, he's a person who killed an unarmed man in front of a bunch of children.
What was the killer's motive? Also irrelevant. He killed an unarmed man in front of a bunch of children. I don't care why this person decided to kill Coach Ed Thomas. Knowing why would give the impression that I care about the killer, which I don't.
Who do I care about? Ed Thomas' family. Ed Thomas' students. Ed Thomas' players. Ed Thomas' community. In short, I care about everything in this case EXCEPT the killer.
So why do I write this? Two reasons:
1. To get Ed Thomas' name out there more than the killer's.
2. To address anyone else who may be harboring feelings of angst, rage, hurt feelings, an un-kissed boo-boo, or repressed personal frustrations to the point that they think that maybe the answer is to go out and take an innocent person's life.
So, now that I have done my part to make sure we hear about Ed Thomas, on to part two.
Hello all you out there who fit into category 2.
I know that you think that the solution to your problems is to get that gun and pretend like you're the trigger man in that lame "shoot 'em up" movie or video game that you are spending WAY too much time paying attention to. I know that you think your life is meaningless and therefore, so is the life of that person you are going to kill. But here's a news flash for you, pinhead: while YOUR life is worthless, THEIR'S is NOT. Now, how did this come to be? How is it that their life means more than yours? Well, buttercup, it's because they LIVE THEIRS! They live their lives while you waste yours. While they are out spreading good, doing good, and being good, you are smoking dope, or meth, or some other chemical to either keep you satisfied being a boring waste of biological matter or to anesthetize you from the drudgery of your own created circumstances.
Here's a tip: why not try being the opposite of what you are! Instead of being a piece of human excrement, why don't you look around and see if there's any good you can do? Is there some old lady's yard you can clean up? Are there any local kids you can help out? Maybe you could put down the crack pipe and help other people like you put down the crack pipe as well. Maybe, just maybe, if you go out and do enough good, perhaps the world won't seem like such a hopeless place, and you won't have to feel like ending someone else's life any more. Do those things and you will kill someone: the old you.
