We live in a society that makes living so convenient and easy, yet there are more problems and chaos than ever in the average person's life. On one hand, we have the best of technology, new medical discoveries, fast food restaurants, luxury living like never before and yet we see where the divorce rate is now over 50%; family violence is increasing; children no longer respect nor are required to live up to the virtue of honoring their parents; bipolar and other mental conditions are on the rise; and world and corporate leaders seem to be driven by greed and more greed. Wow! The list could go on and on, but you probably get the picture. How did it come to this? What is missing that would bring about such negativity in our world?
Each of us can answer that question by simply looking in the mirror. We have all made our contributions to the moral fiber of our world, both its positive aspects and its negative aspects. How can this be? Our thoughts, our actions, our reactions, and our deeds: they are the ingredients of the conditions of society. That is where we must look to find the source of the negativity and problems we are currently experiencing.
Over thousands of years, man has become less and less connected with the world around him. In the first step, man disassociated himself from the physical world, adopting a mindset of controlling and "harnessing" the forces of nature. Next, we began to progressively disconnect from the people around us. Humanity began to revolve around itself, becoming a self-solitary seeking society. That is, every individual is for oneself without regard or consideration for others, which creates a senseless, selfishly motivated society. When such conditions are evident, every decision, every thought, every act is a by-product of what best benefits the "me."
And that is our current state. Most decisions, from most people, are made on the basis of "how will it benefit me?" From the corporeal perspective, this appears to be rational; however, from the spiritual perspective, this is the major cause of that nagging sense of dissatisfaction, of "still, something is missing."
Kabbalah explains how to attain that which is missing. The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us that the source of our existence is the very force of Nature from which we have disconnected ourselves. It shows us what we are made of, and how to find that missing ingredient that calls out to us. This search is the reason for our existence. We will discover that it requires us to reconnect above the "me," to join together as the family of man and an inherent part of the Nature that surrounds us.
By realizing our true purpose in life, man attains perfection, tranquility, unbounded enjoyment and the ability to transcend the limitations of time and space while still living in this world. It is a lifetime process of study that enables one to answer all the questions in one's life, to understand the problems in life, and to show one the meaning of one's life.
Now, look in that mirror again. This time, see the solution to the chaos and the lack of lasting satisfaction - the answer to "still, something is missing." It can only be found in the wisdom of Kabbalah.
