Stinson Lake Vacation, 1971

James R. Ford

mornings in the kitchen with Dad

cooking up pancakes

downing that glass of chocolate milk

walking along to the country store

going to buy yesterday's news

and a few comic books

picked wild berries along the road

ate them all, went back to the cottage

with an empty pail and a big red smile

days filled with horseshoe throwing

baseball with my brother

and exploring the mountain creek

afternoons in the mountain lake

jumping off the boat dock

paddling back, jumping in again

everyday is a cookout

burgers and dogs

watermelon and toasted marshmallows

Labor Day comes so fast

summer ends

back to school

and the city again.

Sounds idyllic! Your poem brings back wonderful memories of childhood. Nicely done. :-)
