Stitching a Quilt

Quiltmaking Joys - a Poem

Rue Cooper
After pressing fabric, cutting, measuring, and sewing hundreds of tiny strips together for a log-cabin quilt, these words came together too, for a little humor in the joys of quilting.

"The Log Cabin Quilt"

I stitched on that quilt
Til my mind went mad.
I cut and I measured
For all I had.
Then I dug through the scraps for more,
Bright strips I tore,
What a chore.
Threads in my hair, I wore.
Stars melted from night,
Sun blurred my sight.
Then the pattern it grew,
My frazzled mind flew,
To my little wood's path.
Oh, this quilt
What wrath!
Let me hide this cloth.
Let it be eaten by moth.
I could bury it deep,
Where rain could seep.
I could shovel on earth,
For all I'm worth.
Then when someone inquired,
Of my quilt,
Was I tired?
Did I come unwired?
I could say with vigor,
It's in the first stage of rigor!

Maybe this is why I've never been able to quilt! Cheers (but, I'd still like to learn one day!)
