*Local currency---When you give local currency you're giving the gift of precious time to your traveler friend or relative. You don't have to invest a lot, but any small amount will help him save time, so he won't have to wait in line to exchange currency. What 's more, you can also include a few notes regarding the local currency for small expenses such as bus and taxi services, as well as snacks.
*Prepaid international calling cards---All you need to do is verify that the telephone company you select is suitable to whatever country your traveler friend is planning to visit.
*Film---What traveler wouldn't appreciate a few extra rolls of film.? Just make sure you know the type of film needed for his purposes, as well as the type of camera.
*Throw-away cameras---With disposable cameras you don't have to load it with film. Just shoot the picture.
*Memory card---Does your friend have a cheap digital camera that doesn't have much memory? If you know the make and brand of your friend's digital camera, you can chose a memory card so he'll be able to take more pictures.
*Zip lock bags--- Assorted Zip lock bags make an excellent gift, as they are great for keeping luggage in order, thus saving time. Instead of having to dig through his luggage, your traveler friend will be more organized.
*Care packages---Here you can get creative----Include some Zip lock bags filled with "survival" items such as earplugs, Handi-wipes, pens, Altoid mints, peanuts packets, aspirin, etc.
*Small dictionaries---Is your traveler friend planning a trip to France? Then why not look for a pocket-sized dictionary of necessary French phrases.
*Tuition for language class---If you know your traveler friend is planning an overseas trip to Italy in about a year but doesn't know a word of Italian, then I'm sure he'd appreciate tuition for an Italian language class. Note that many local community schools and colleges provide classes in foreign languages.
*Pocket-sized world atlas---With this gift your traveler friend can check on time zones, air routes, climate conditions, as well as currency and banking hours. (See http://www.maps.com/map.aspx?pid=11118&AID=10297911&CJPID=1776059)
*Travel book light---When the lights go out at night, it's good to know your traveler friend can still keep studying maps and reading about tomorrow's agenda without disturbing others in the motel room.
*Mobile phone PDA charger---When you travel, especially overseas, it's great to know you can charge your cell phone anywhere.
*Travel alarm clock---When you travel overseas, it's easy to suffer from jet lag and not wake up on time the next day to see the sites. Make sure your traveler friend doesn't oversleep by including a travel alarm clock.
*Headphones---Your traveler friend will probably be spending much time in the air, so I'm sure he'll appreciate some headphones. Although airlines supply them, he may want to listen to his own favorite CDs.
*Universal adapter---For about $20 you can get an electric universal adapter. An all-in-One Adapter with a surge protector is a good choice as one unit can encompass several countries. This makes more sense than carting several different adapters.
*Notebook and paper---Your traveler friend will want to jot down notes of all he sees, so a notebook filled with paper is another good stocking stuffer.
These are just a few suggestions. With some more thought, you could easily add to the list, making this Christmas special for your world traveler friend.
