Stocking Stuffers for Tweens this Christmas

For the Pre-teens in Your Life on a Budget

D.K. Bernhard
When I was young, they didn't use the word Tween, so let me begin by explaining what a Tween is. They are what we used to call pre-teens. They are boys or girls from the age of ten to twelve (middle school aged) who aren't "kids" any more, but who aren't teenagers quite yet.

Used Video Games

Does your son or the favorite tween boy in your life have a favorite video game system? Well, find your nearest Game Stop, EB Games, or other video game store who buy and sell used games, and find something for their game system in a clearance bin. Make sure they don't have it already, and you can buy a great stocking stuffer for very cheap that your Tween will love. A gift card will help make sure that they get just the game they are looking for, and empower them to make their own purchasing decisions.

Books or Magazines

Does your Tween boy love to read? A book from his favorite author that he doesn't have would be a good start, or the best selling 'teen' book can also do in a pinch. If they aren't a big reader, you can also get them a kid-centered magazine of a favorite topic, that will help encourage them to read. Besides, it is always exciting to get something delivered in the mail.

An MP3 Player

You can find cheap MP3 players for the tween boy in your life for as little as ten dollars. Add a gift card to iTunes and load it yourself with shipping information. Put the login and password on a card, and put it in the stocking for another great gift for the tween boy who loves music.

Collectible Trading Cards

Does your tween like Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon, or Magic the Gathering? Well, you can purchase a package of cards from their favorite game for only a few dollars, which could potentially net them a very rare / useful / or valuable card that will help them play to win their favorite game. There are a wide variety of games out there like this, and a pack of cards will ensure you that they are getting something they want. Card games like these may only have a limited amount of cards for each set, but even if they get duplicates, they will typically get an assortment of common, uncommon, and rare cards.

Models

If you want to get your tween boy a gift that they can put together with their own hands, then a die-cast model is a great idea for a stocking stuffer. If they like cars, you can find thousands of car models with an age range printed on the box, sports enthusiasts can find life-like models of their favorite player or field, and science fiction or space nuts will let you pick from thousands of space ships, rocket ships, or solar system models that they can build themselves.
