When first driving up to the door of Stonehaus Farm you almost think it is a home. From the parking lot you see a pond in the back with a dock that matches all the other homes in this area. However the give away is the grape vines that are right across the gravel path. The vineyard itself is not terribly large and the selling radius for these vineyard owners is not wide, however they do seem to be jack of all trades.
They have a small store on the first floor of the winery, where you can taste as many wines as you like. They have Cherry and Elderberry wines, Ports, Dry Reds, and a very nice semi-sweet white wine. The port is rich and very sweet but also smooth and one of the very few I have enjoyed. They had two red wines one that was drier and more powerful than the other but if you are a red wine connoisseur you would enjoy. The wine prices were also great because you're buying direct from the source most bottles were $8.00 - $13.00. They also referenced new fruitier blush wines that come out only in the summer for sweeter palettes.
They also have sodas and water for the kids that get dragged in with their parents. Another great option is to buy a bottle of wine and you can go around the back to the pond where they have benches and a gazebo. There is plenty of room for kids to run while you slowly sip your wine.
While you are in the back also look at the reception hall they have built on the property. The most it would hold is maybe 50 wedding guests but the gorgeous view, wonderful wine, and large fireplace within the hall would make it a wonderful spot for weddings or small Christmas parties.
This is a great winery that stands out with its own unique charm and different offerings. It is also a very short 45 minute drive from Kansas City allowing anyone to drop by and taste the wine before you buy it.
